replacing all four and going to coilovers.

Suggestion

If you need to replace your shocks anyway, might make sense but as an 'upgrade' over a fine condition stock suspension, money is IMHO better spent elsewhere than ROW-M030.

Suggestion · Original poster

I've got the +2qt LNE oil pan / deep sump so even at stock ride heights I am already running reduced clearance in the back, so I'm a bit worried about dropping another inch or more with coil overs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, 1999 C2 with 82k mi, RMS and IMSB done, drives fine, plan to keep it for awhile and track it once a month or so. (I'm a grandpa timewise but courteous about point by's - still dealing with mental fall out of recently getting out of a car that dropped 50 feet off a hill and burning to a charred hull; forcing myself to "get back on the horse" but still shaken and have occasional nightmares) Should be 50/50 street / track (have other cars for DD) There's moisture on both rear shocks, though damping and rebound are fine, no bouncing. I've got the +2qt LNE oil pan / deep sump so even at stock ride heights I am already running reduced clearance in the back, so I'm a bit worried about dropping another inch or more with coil overs. Considering rebuild stock shocks replacing all four and going to coilovers. Considering H&R (least expensive of the "brand names") Ohlins Bilstein PSS10 KW Koni ZF Sachs (OEM) Others? D2, Ksport at al seem much less expensive, wondering if their quality or reliability / performance is commensurate? Would appreciate any and all feedback and thoughts. Is it possible to fit coilovers and keep factory spec ride height? Adjustability is not that much of a consideration for me - I like the idea, but the reality is that I seldom / never use it. But I DON'T want to scrape the oil pan! Thanks in advance.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

on a high speed track (Fontana AAA ROVAL - half Nascar oval with high speed banking, half infield road course) I always felt the car was a wallowing, soft and imprecise ... on the street but wow, at speed, it was smooth all around. Even the loose and flabby shifter (in street driving) seemed to work just right. Was it high speed euphoria making everything seem just right, or was it downforce and aero (remember, it's stock C2 non-aero) that put the car into its true designed in "operating zone?" Certainly not surgically precise turn in and mindblowing seemingly endless grip and flat cornering attitude of a GT3 RS (which I've had experience with on track) but not the wallowing cruiseship I expected either. In some ways, ironically, I actually preferred how the 996 felt at 6/10 on the track...odd. If the rear shocks weren't leaking, I might even consider keeping it totally factory stock! (shocker)

POST 3Original post

How about ROW M030 setup? I have this option on my car and just love it. Works well on road and track. I think it's 25mm lower than stock? (stock USA suspension) Forget the d2 and k-sport, those are chinese cheap cr.p...

POST 4Original post

For $1200 you can have the M030. Lowers 20mm in front and 10mm in the rear. Includes new sways too.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ROW M030 sounds like the perfect solution but I thought it was no longer available?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

"Forget the d2 and k-sport, those are chinese cheap cr.p... " Thanks for the heads up!

POST 7Original post

With a bit of luck you can find a set of GT3 shocks for the same as or even a bit less than the M030. I've been very happy with my GT3 suspension setup. Height adjustable but no damping adjustment BTW.

I bought mine here http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...=996Suspension It made a slight difference, little bit lower, little bit stiffer, and felt better all around. Major plus for me, it is Porsche spec equipment so my vehicle is all stock.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the link! I've checked Suncoast before, never saw that page. GT3 shocks - I'm assuming they'd have to be used to be price competitive? I was in love with the 997.2 GT3RS but tracking the stock 996.1 really opened my eyes...

POST 10Original post

You may be thinking of the X73/74 option. 73's for Turbo and C4S. 74 for our cars. I love mine. Sadly it appears they are no longer available. If you do lower the car I would suggest you get a engine protection plate or get one fabbed at local sheet metal shop.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 10942911

You might be thinking of the highly regarded X73 and X74 suspension kits that are no longer available... (Edit: I see SneakyPete already posted this info...) ROW M030 is still readily available at a reasonable cost, but doesn't provide that big of a difference over stock. If you need to replace your shocks anyway, might make sense but as an 'upgrade' over a fine condition stock suspension, money is IMHO better spent elsewhere than ROW-M030. Also, Bilstein will rebuild your current struts for about $75/each...

POST 12Original post

I'd look at the pss10, they are awesome. The great thing about them is at full soft, they are very close to stock but better. You can also adjust them without taking off the wheels. You can also set them very close to stock height. I can safely say that this is one of the best mod for the 996.

POST 13Original post

For the money and all around nice performance go with the Bilstein PSS10. IMHO.. PM me if you want to discuss...

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, PSS10's were my frontrunners as well but from a purely practical standpoint (I am notorious for NOT being practical when I make hobby decisions) they are probably more than I need for the track (I've got another more purely track focused car with PSS9's and GT3 components) and possibly too low for the street, with my LNE +2 sump kit and equal parts street driving. ROW030 or for $800 more, the H&R vs + $1800 for the PSS10's or Sachs or Ohlins. But always open to hearing other POV. Thanks for offering to discuss offline.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sneaky Pete, PFBZ, thanks for the X73/X74 info. Searching that pulled up some past threads, very helpful. Much appreciated. Bilstein rebuild...hmmm...
