Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I think that it changes the look more on some colors than others.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

but I've seen many many references to the pumpkins but never specifics as to why they are so undesireable.
What am I missing?
I'm not a fan, per se, but I kinda like the contrast to my low profile silver C2.
Just watched "In Good Company" with Dennis Quaid, Topher Grace and, sigh, Scarlett Johannson this morning. 30 mins in, Grace's character crashes his new 996 driving off the Porsche lot. The pumpkins popped out.
That's why.
Gulp! Where do I get THOSE upgrade options?!?!?
Holy Ba-Jolies! (and that's with all due respect to that Angelina...
Seriously, though, do the pumpkins have a different tab / retainer system so that they pop out more easily?
I think that it changes the look more on some colors than others. I don't mind the pumpkins on lighter colored cars and I don't like them on darker cars. It's a matter of personal preference.
I would say European spec. If I'm driving a German car, I'd rather drive it in the pure form that it was intended by the manufacturer and not dictated by how the US gubment deems how the car should be. The same reason why the ROW Euro spec suspension swap is popular.
I'm glad someone finally asked this question!
Of course, I have the clear side markers since I already own the dreaded bastard stepchild of the 911 lineage, and couldn't afford even more any more marginalization from the Porsche community.
But really, I can't say the orange ones looked bad, or that anyone in the world, other than RLers would a) notice, or b) give a crap about it.
:-) I'm with you on the cosmetics.
But if there is a design weakness with the pumpkins (someone hinted they might pop out / off more readily?) then that might change my mind about changing.

....I like the contrast too but after seeing this post I started looking at photos of cars with the smoked lens and I see the appeal. I'm going to call Scarlett and ask her what she prefers and I'll go with what she says......
All the 996 enthusiasts in Europe probably change out their boring clear side markers for the more colorful American side markers to customize their cars.
Thread drift, but be sure if you have the Porsche Crest in your wheels hub covers that they point TO the valve stem, lest you be labeled inadequate by all women who view your car.
I wonder who first started the point to valve stem thing.
Too many rulez man.. Too many rulez. :-)
^^^ I thought this was a Porsche site...
I'm just trying to fit in here, and I get flack in the general section.
I'm not a "spammer", and I have a 996....and a few girlfriends that are cute.
Shoot me.
Damn.
