Soon after purchase I had the IMS bearing, RMS, and clutch replaced by Lufteknic in Richmond.

I was able to use the need for IMS replacement to wrangle a new set of Conti SportContact2's in the deal.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been watching this board for well over a year, soaking up info prior to buying my second Porsche (first was a 1990 Triple Black C4 964 cab I bought in 2000 and kept for four years). I settled in on a 996, and right before Christmas of 2012 bought a 2004 C4S cab with 64,000 miles. It had had an IMS-induced engine failure at 42,000 miles, so I bought it with a replacement engine installed by Porsche of Tysons Corner. Previous owner didn't know about IMS failures and L&N replacement bearings, so the engine removal wasn't used as a great time to perform the upgrade. Soon after purchase I had the IMS bearing, RMS, and clutch replaced by Lufteknic in Richmond. I was able to use the need for IMS replacement to wrangle a new set of Conti SportContact2's in the deal. Car has been great so far, with only a few minor issues. Only problem has been an incredibly wet summer--I've only put about 3,000 miles on in ensuing year. This board has been terrific, and has helped me with the several minor issues mentioned above.
Nice car. I really like the red valance on the rear. Although I have a 996, I also have a 964 cab with the red valance on it. I wish all 996s had them.
Nice car, congrats! I can see there are quite a few scratches on the center console.... here's an easy fix... pop out the ash tray, take it to Home Depot and have the paint department scan it and mix up a little jar of matching paint. Use a very fine paint brush, and your console will look nearly new.
Excellent idea! I've seen this idea posted before (probably by you), but just haven't made it over to Home Depot to get it made. I think the idea that I have to buy a gallon of custom paint to get the fraction of an ounce I'll need rubs me the wrong way! The previous owner admitted his first love is golf, and the interior scratches came from his clubs banging around on his way to the course.
Go to your local professional autobody paint store and ask them to match your piece that you bring in with you. Some stores will be able to custom match and mix SEM elastomeric paint line into a can. YMMV depending on store.
