This annoyed me on my car, so I removed the strips and clamped the flaps in place and then used a little clear silicone caulking on the back to hold them in place.

My roof top tabs will not close entirely and the local dealer was not able to fix correctly either, anyone remove the strip and replace with a solid strip?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My roof top tabs will not close entirely and the local dealer was not able to fix correctly either, anyone remove the strip and replace with a solid strip? I do not need to use this system.
The clips that hold the painted parts are about $5 each. Removing the clips can be a piece of cake or very difficult depending on the mood/material that your screws are made of. Google has the details.
Underneath the body colored piece is a white plastic hinge mechanism. The hinge is what is broken - replace it and reattach the painted part. It may be the cheapest part to replace on your car.
This annoyed me on my car, so I removed the strips and clamped the flaps in place and then used a little clear silicone caulking on the back to hold them in place. It kept them closed and the silicone could just be peeled off if I ever changed my mind.
Hi guys, I have a similar problem and need to replace the hinge mechanism under the flap. How do you remove the long painted strip in order to access this hinge?
Thanks in advance for any comments.
Joe
You rock it to one side - that is what the hinge is there for. Then you can access the hinge attachment screw - hope yours is plastic not the dreaded "I'm in here forever" steel screws. The painted part slips into the hinge.
Not sure if we are talking about the same part Ditto??
I was referring to the long painted strip that runs from the windshield to the rear window and houses forward and aft flaps! I understand I need to remove this strip in order to gain access to the broken hinge assembly!
