So taking their advice I got under the dash and removed only the center crossing duct using the concertina section to provide the ability is dislodge it from the side-vent side first.

Some advice that using my finger on the outside of the OBDII connector allowed me to lever up the side vent and get the crossing duct back on securely.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Recently had the frequently-described ignition switch problem. I poured over the advice on this site and Renntech.org I ordered the $11 switch from my local NAPA and picked it up this evening. I found one comment from somebody in may that suggested that the side vent did NOT need to be removed to do this if one is small and lithe enough. So taking their advice I got under the dash and removed only the center crossing duct using the concertina section to provide the ability is dislodge it from the side-vent side first. Then I had a good view of the switch. I disconnected the battery, the connector, picked off the locking paint and was able to remove the set screws with a screwdriver head held between my fingers. Out with the old, in with the new, set screws in, connector on, battery on. Once I confirmed I could operate the ignition again I put the crossing duct back on(reversal of removing it). Some advice that using my finger on the outside of the OBDII connector allowed me to lever up the side vent and get the crossing duct back on securely. All told 30 minutes once tools were assembled. Certainly better than the $500-750 I was quoted by 2 local dealers(yes, that big a difference) Sent from my iPhone using Rennlist

POST 2Original post

Great work, congrats, wow huge savings from DIY... I replaced my light switch but not the ingnition switch yet (fingers crossed/knock on wood). Tho I do have a spare ignition switch ready in case it craps out on me.
