When I initially purchased the wheel I checked the back side of the skin to see what would be involved in replacing the badge - and that's when I decided painting/stripping was the way to go.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I love the three-spoke wheel in the 996 - I think it updates the interior (OK, who am I kidding, the 3-spoke rules over the 4-spoke wheel). What I wasn't happy with was the scratched paint on the emblem. The black was scratched up in several places, and my attempts to fix it with Testors model paint was not going well, so I decided to take all of the paint off and leave it that way. I think it is beautiful...

POST 3Original post

What you use to remove the paint ? Did you remove the badge from the airbag. It looks good up close how about a whole wheel pic.

POST 4Original post

Looks great, Schnelly! How did you clean it so well?

POST 7Original post

Why not just buy a new badge (if you like the painted one)? Are they not easy to find?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Replacements emblems for the airbag cover haven't proved easy to source, and I also dislike messing with detaching and reattaching a metal item that has the potential to become a projectile if the airbag fires. When I initially purchased the wheel I checked the back side of the skin to see what would be involved in replacing the badge - and that's when I decided painting/stripping was the way to go.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cuda, I used Testors paint thinner and cotton swabs to get the paint to soften up, and toothpicks to scrape off the paint and get into the detail areas. Took about 20 minutes start-to-finish...
