Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 99 C4 118k will sometimes after sitting in the garage for 1-5 hrs be hard to start. I have to open the throttle some to get it to fire up. After starting it idles poorly for 20-30 sec. This does not happen if parked outside (breezy?) where it might cool better? Even if I run in a store and come out it starts right up. Any of you have similar problems? How do you check the operation of the engine compartment cooling fan, I have never heard it run. Thanks

POST 2Original post

My old (2003) 4S use to start a little hard every once in a while when it was not driven for a few hours. When warmed up it had no problem and when it was totally cold it had no problem. Never could figure it out.

POST 3Original post

I would start by cleaning the throttle body well.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cleaned that and the MAF last night when I got home from work (5:30) went out at 9:00 and was hard to start. I have not changed the plugs in 27k miles?

I wonder if you have a leaking injector? Wouldnt be too much harder to start but may create the rough idle for a little bit until the cylinder clears out. I was thinking the fuel system is bleeding off but that wouldnt explain the rough idle. I doubt it is the coolant temp sensor because it would do exactly the opposite of what is happening - hard to start warm, ok to start cold.

POST 6Original post

I dont know, but think fuel....I would guess the fuel bleeds off into the cylinder causing a wet plug...I would think injectors need cleaning or replaced? just a guess Ed

Yes Tim, it is the worst one. It almost looks like I photoshopped it but it is a very, very real picture......almost surreal this happened so easily.
