Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

28 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My desktop uses a revolving series of images of my previous cars. Every few days the images from my beloved 996 C4S (Seal Gray/Black) pop up on screen and they always invoke a small sigh of regret. Unfortunately my ex-wife INSISTED that it should be Tip to get the funds approved. Sadly I should have stuck to my guns and gotten it with stick. If I had I would probably still own it. It's a great looking car. It handles beautifully. It sounds terrific with PSE. And I had some great adventures in it. I hope someone, somewhere is enjoying it as much as I did, if not more so. Salut!

POST 2Original post

salut! I hope we all remember our 996's this way!! (except the part where your wife made ya buy the Tip )

POST 3Original post

That sounds similar to another Rennlister's story, but I won't mention any names. He owns owns a black cab with a Tip. IIRC, his wife wanted a Tip and ended up not liking to ride in the car, let alone drive it.

POST 4Original post

I feel you brotha. I bought a TIP for that same reason and my wife has yet to drive it. And probably will never drive it cause she does not like the feel of the car. Go figure! But, I enjoy the car everyday!

POST 5Original post

I bought a tip too, but I don't regret it. I drive 40 miles/day in LA stop and go traffic. That takes the fun out of a stick REAL FAST... oh yea...and my wife doesn't drive stick

POST 6Original post

I have a second garage where the Porsche's sit. On the days I want to have some fun, I open up that garage. I always, always, take a second look before I walk in, and feel a little happier and thankful to own such a car. Tip or 6-speed, or that new PDK, count our blessings that we can afford to own and keep these cars.

POST 7Original post

Funny. My '99 C2 Cab was a tip for this very reason. Wife drove it twice. Rode in it about 3 times in five years. When I ordered the '04 C4S Cab, it was 6sp no question. Never looked back. And yes, wifey is still with me, nearing 25 years.

POST 8Original post

Buying a 6-speed is part of the driving experience. I would rather teach my wife how to drive a stick over buying a tip. Guys i heard of p#^$#sy power but come on. My 2 cents

POST 9Original post

My wife tried to learn to drive a stick, but no cigar. The poor neighbor girls teaching her had to wear helmets after several sessions to avoid whiplash from her shifts. She rarely drives the P-car anyway - next toy will most definitely be a manny tranny. In the meantime, I enjoy every mile of driving pleasure and use it as a businesss commuter and it's the only way to go in traffic and w/ conf calls.

POST 10Original post

When I was searching for a 996 as a daily driver, I test drove both tip and 6 speed. In my mind, 6 speed was always the awnswer. My wife drives in a lot of stop and go traffic and before pulled the trigger on my new joy, I asked my wife if she would prefer the tip. She stated: "no, it is your car get want you want" I did, Man I love her!

POST 11Original post

my wife Likes to drive the 6-speed! and traffic is a good reason to listen to the engine growl.

POST 12Original post

When I was looking for my 996, I saw one that had great options but was a Tip. My wife happened to walk by the computer and saw it on the screen. She mentioned that is was very nice looking. I told her the only down-side of the car was that it had a Tip. She replied, with something like "You're not really thinking of buying a sports car with an automatic transmission, are you?" BTW, she knows how to drive a stick and did drive the Porsche on occasion. She said she was always uncomfortable driving it because she was afraid that she might screw it up, because she knows how I am about my cars..... except for the POS Honda!

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I might add wife #3 can drive stick-shift, does it properly, and enjoys it; though doesn't like me being in the car when she drives it. Wife #1 was a sometime race car driver - now why did I divorce her...???

POST 14Original post

My fiancee likes handbags, I like cars. I stay from her handbags, and she stays away from my cars. ///Michael

POST 15Original post

wow... love my wife, but....the car was all mine. In fact the first time she saw it (or for that matter, heard me mention I was buying it) was when I pulled into the driveway with it on Mother's Day. I said "Hunny, I got your Mother's day present, dont I look good in it!" After she slammed the door, and gave me the finger (joking) she came out and said she loved it. She doesn't ride in it much and for her, it was "my thing" so I just did it all by my self BTW celebrating 12 years with this wonderful woman that lets me just be me! (I asked about an "upgrade" to MKII last week to see what she would say... that finger came out again and she said "I dont care, that is your thing" but I am not in a position to change yet, just priming for the day when I can. She really would not mind, but she doesn love the looks of our current MKI ) Teaching stick is easy, i have taught many people and just a few months ago, my neighbors kid who "could not learn it" I just said, (like always) go to a parking lot, and you only get to use the clutch...no gas. Once the car rolls with the clutch fully out, push it in, stop and repeat using the clutch only... do that for about 1/2 hour and the rest is cake... He came back an hour later with a huge smile and drives his car perfectly now... no reving it up to get going

HA... handbags... think Handbags... My wife is a "Shoe" woman.. she loves Italian shoes and I am constantly discovering new boxes with them "tucked" away for later...Man!!!

There's only 2 days I dread: 1- the day she buys a new handbag ("you paid how much for it?!?!"), and 2- the day she sells a handbag in a garage sale ("you only used it once and you got how much for it?!?!"). You know Ed, I always say, there's only 2 things to do in North Texas: 1- eat, and 2- shop. Sounds like your wife would love it here. ///Michael

POST 19Original post

LOL- My wife NEVER gets rid of anything...we still have clothes the kids outgrew 2-3-4-5-6-7 years ago... she says. i dont want a stranger to wear them, and I have a friend that can use these...but the day never comes and the clothes just sit in the backof the closet...along with the shoes and and and Whoops... i better go out and see my own mess before I think she is the one who has the problems!

POST 20Original post

My wife has never driven my car. She loves the car, but knows that it's my baby and that I'd have a cow if she damaged it... for the sake of marital bliss she choses to enjoy the car from the passenger seat.

POST 21Original post

I'm not sure that would make up for it - after all, it doesn't take a lot of talent to be good in that department.

awe... at my age that is not very high on the list. My wife is wonderful in so many ways. I am truly blessed to be so lucky. I joke that she drives really bad, and mostly its true, but there is no way I would be this happy and this lucky if not for her.... Nuf said on that... I am just damn happy she is my wife.... EVERYDAY since I met her over 16 years ago...(married 12+)
