I always though it was the white noise that was giving me a headache after a long highway drive..
Leading evidence: 'white noise' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'white noise' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check offsets' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have to check my offsets, but I won't be anywhere near my p-car until Thursday.

Ill check tomorrow how the wear looks and which model.

a cousin of mine recommended these to me and he uses them in Calgary.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Was thinking of a wheel and Tire package from Wheel Dynamics, but never heard of the Norway brand of tire "Vredestein". Anyone have any experience with them? They do have some funky tires treads I have to admit.
There website:
http://www.vredestein.com/
They make good high end tires. They used to do OEM for Porsche, but not anymore.
Vredestein are actually Dutch. I've visited their manufacturing facility in Enscade and taken a tire building course with them. They have state of the art design, testing and manufacturing.
Their tires are tough to get hold of over here, but well recommended.
Incredible snow tire capability as well, as you'd expect from a Scandinavian manufacturer. I've run them for years and love them. I've never tried their summer product.
Steve, you are a true gearhead. You don't have an engine, but you are looking to upgrade your wheels and tires. I'm glad that I'm not alone. I couldn't tell you how many mods that I bought for both project cars, before they were running.
If you think I'm going to let you get new wheels and I just get an engine forget that, the man with the most parts and least money wins !!
Lost my Indy guy so going different direction with engine and with money saved getting the new C5 RUF knock offs. When the wheels get there I will kill two birds with one stone wheels/engine since I will be driving down in my truck hope it all fits in a Tacoma
You are truely amazing that you would take a tire course there, and thanks for the feedback. The tire pkg was higher with TOYO tires and they rate low from what little I have read. Thanks for feedback.
I was very lucky to get to attend. I spent some time designing new additives for tires at my last job - I was in the right place at the right time when my employer paid for 10 of us to attend their tire design and building course. They're so confident in their abilities that they actually consult in tire design and manufacturing and teach others how to do it. They claim that they were the first to design and build a fully automated tire production facility - it's really impressive.
Believe me, a tire is a very complicated piece of equipment. I was actually taught how to build a tire by hand - it gives you a real appreciation for the technology. I built a few tires, but I would never trust them on my own car.
Vredestein has a very good reputation in Europe for high performance tires! As Wellardmac mentioned, it's a Dutch company and other than the countries in Scandinavia, the Netherlands have less snow on the street but more in their coffee shops in Amsterdam
. However, that doesn't mean that they don't make good winter tires.
I suppose there is allot of ways to judge a tire however one high up on my list is longevity they have a 50,000 mile warrenty of some, but seems high compared to other tires from different companies most tires only seem to get around 15-20,000 before replacement.
Well, you should know by now that I can back-up everything I say.
It's a lot more complicated than that, plus steel belts are old hat. We all love Kevlar and Nylon nowadays.
You will see below a cross-section of a Vredestein tire and a schematic of a typical tire manufacturing process (also kindly supplied by Vredestein).
I had Vredestein ULTRA-C on my M3. I suppose it was comparable to something like Toyo T1R or Bridgestone RE050 but not comparable to PS2, AD07, etc. They're still good tires though, and hold up well in the canyons.
Here are a couple of photos of a cross section of a Vredestein high performance tire that I keep here in my home office (I have souvenirs of all the technologies that I have developed).
You will notice the layer of kevlar, one copper belt and a steel belt and two nylon layers. It's pretty cool to look at in close-up.. plus it gave me an excuse to play with the macro function of my new Olympus camera.
One other comment here. The "funky" tread design is for a reason. They spend a lot of time optimizing tread design not only for performance, but for noise. I was extremely impressed at the efforts they put into modeling tread design to provide low levels of white noise when in use.
You will find that that we take for granted some of the most well engineered and complicated products just because we use them everyday - sadly it detracts from the wonderful engineering that has gone into making them. You would not believe the energy and complexity that goes into making the products around us.
Tires, paint, cellphones, computers, adhesives - you name it, tremendous time and effort goes into their design and the response from the customer is usually, "well, can you make it better and cheaper"
Well, it would be way worse if it wasn't white noise.
A good example is to compare an off-road tire when used on the street - something like Michelin AT - has a very blocky design and is as noisy as hell - it gives the characteristic noisy tire growl. A good street tires should not be noticeably noisy - it is, but the white noise makes it appear to be less so.
My only concern is sometimes they make a great product one year then re-engineer (reinvent the wheel so to speak) that product and it turns out terrible.?
Don't get me wrong, guys.
The ULTRAC that I had were not their max performance tires, which is why it was not comparable. They do have another tire that are supposedly comparable ULTRAC Sessanta.
The ULTRAC were harder compound compared to PS2... but it's comparing apples-oranges. It's better to compare the ULTRA-C with the "high performance summer" range from tirerack than the "max performance summer" tires.
There's the ULTRAC Sessanta which are rated higher performance than the standard ULTRAC
They are great tires too, however.
Sure, that can happen, although if a company is set up to make a good product, they usually don't lose that ability, but mostly just fall behind the competition by not keeping up with advances. Motorola is a great example of that - they used to innovate and make great products, but they got fat and lazy and stopped innovating. Now they can't invent their way out of a paper bag.
You're not getting away with that one
Which ones are you running and how many miles on them, how are they wearing, are they getting harder as they get older or with more wear etc.
I've also heard good things about these tires from my european friends, and for what its worth the people at Wheel Dynamics are great, treated me like family when I was out there (in fact my 17s are sitting in the back room!)
Thanks they did seem helpful over there, but they are just not clear using Rear 295 30 - 19x11 et 65mm and front 235 35 19x8 et 50mm if I need a spacers up front I am assuming. Any ideas
if I need a spacer.
I would PM LVDell, I'm sure he has the offsets in his head. I think from what I remember you should actually be 8mm wider than stock 8" wheel on a NB, so no spacer is what I think. I have to check my offsets, but I won't be anywhere near my p-car until Thursday.
