I live in the area and am considering buying a used 996 though there aren't really any in the area for sale - so I'll have to start looking downstate. In any case, I had a few questions for any locals like where do you get your car serviced? I've heard some bad things about Holtz Porsche and wonder if you have any experience? Also, have you driven your car in the winter? Is so, any problems? This would be my first Porsche and I don't really have any experience with them.

Otherbmw, I am in syracuse. I cant help you with a reccomendation on a shop, but I can tell you to get a second car for the winter. Many people drive their c4's in the snow in other parts of the country, but I could not imagine driving my c2 in the winter in one of the snowiest cities in the U.S. But even if it is not snowing, think of all the salt and sand on the road. Can't be good for it. Unless you have a heated garage with a drain, how would you clean it? I use porsche at drivers village in syracuse. Not bad, not good. Only 1 porsche tech there. Really nice guy and knowledgable, but the shop is used for vw and audi also. I am a last minute kind of guy, so for me, getting an appointment in there is tough. Usually, they are about 2 weeks out for appointments.
