Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use car purchase' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use car purchase' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When I set out to acquire my first 911, I made a post which has led to great input and guidance from my fellow members.
As many of you have suggested, I have driven quite a few cars from
99 MY forward. My objective was to get a CAB, feeling the open air would just make the experience even better.
Yesterday I was driving at a dealer and I had an opportunity to drive a new 996 Cab & a 997. The NEW Cab is a more than I want to spend, so he's got a BLK/BLK 03 CAB with about 14,000 miles, new tires coming in Monday. The price is about $66,800. (Original MSRP $85,000).
Please let me get your comments on :
Price of the 03
Would you go for the new 997.
Thanks,
Gary
all depends on how much dough you want to blow...............I think you will enjoy the 996 and save a few bucks too! If I had unlimited funds I would get a 997S..............
Good luck!
Your budget already excludes the 997 whether in std, S, or cab configurations.
The 996 Cab is a beautiful vehicle. The Porsche Market Letter has the following prices for 03 996 Cab's:
Low - $69,000
Median - $75,789
High - $87,000
You'll need to go over the vehicle like any used car purchase. It will still have a good portion of the Porsche warrantee, which will give you some peace of mind.
Remember that these cars are a la carte. What options does the car have on it? Are they the ones that you want. Does it have heated seats, litronics? Is it a C4(S); if not, does it have PSM? Leather, memory seats, rain sensing wipers, auto dimming mirror, power seats, lumbar supports, etc. I spent 4 months looking for the "right" car to make sure that it had all the things that I wanted.
Take you time. Also, if it's from the dealer, make sure that it is certified.
Honestly when it comes to the 2 cars, they are both great, however $$$ is a factor, see i spent 5 months looking for the right car with the right options...........sadly i never did find it, so i ordered one with the PERFECT options for me....996 would be the best deal right now, and hey there is nothing wrong with the 996.....it really is a blast to drive! good luck and let us know what you decide.
Gary, consider waiting until the 997 cab has hit the streets to buy the 996 cab. Once the 997 droptops are out, the value of the 996 cabs are going to tank pretty hard IMHO.
At $66k, it better be certified. Price isn't bad but you can probly get an 02 for $10k less. Does the 03 have the options you want? If not, get the dealer to add the options at no charge as adding on later will cost you.
If you can wait, hold buying until 997 cab comes out. 996 cab will most likely drop in price even more.
And if open air experience is what you're looking for, you may also want to consider a Targa in the mix. There should be very good deals on these as well. But remember to drive them all, it is not about what other people think, it is about what you like best. The experience you are going through is very emotional.
Good luck!
