Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I am interested on soldering the pins back on my old badge, what specific type of solder do I use Tool Pants?

Then with a small pair of plyers I was able to grab on to the post head, even though it slipped several times it never penetrated the tape and did not cause damage to the paint Using the metric socket wrench I was able to remove the nut from the bottom of the hood.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 2000 996 hood badge fell off for the second time. The first time it separated from the posts leaving the posts and retaining nuts on the inside of the front hood. I purchased a new badge but quickly found out I could not remove the nuts from the remaing posts on the hood. The posts are flush with the top of the hood, and turning the nuts from underneath the hood only turns the posts. Fortunately at that time the car was still under warranty and the dealer replaced the badge.
Now with no warranty I need to find a way to remove the old posts without damaging the hood. Anybody have the same problems with their hood badge, if so how can I resolve this.
Thanks,
Joe C.
Pushing down on the center of the remaining post w/acenter punch does not pop it through to the inside?......might suggest you put a magnet retriever up there on the inside before you do that.
I tried pushing on the center post , even tapping it from underneath with a socket extension but it would not budge. I then placed small pieces of electrical tape all around the flat head of the remaing posts. Then with a small pair of plyers I was able to grab on to the post head, even though it slipped several times it never penetrated the tape and did not cause damage to the paint Using the metric socket wrench I was able to remove the nut from the bottom of the hood.
Thanks for your help

Quick tip:
The badge is breaking because you're pressing on it to latch the hood! Instead press above the latch point - don't worry, the paint will survive!
I never press on the badge to close the hood, I read on this board some time ago not to do that. I'm glad to see that I am not the only one experiencing this problem. I am interested on soldering the pins back on my old badge, what specific type of solder do I use Tool Pants?
Thanks everyone.

Just your usual acid core solder. But you need a big soldering iron or gun. Not the little kind you use for computers.
I have fixed 2 or 3 badges. It is a pain to get the broken off mounting stud out of the hood. I usually hold the pliers with 2 hands as hard as I can and grab onto what I can, while a second person removes the speed nut. Otherwise the stud just spins.
