Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Carbon Fiber Hood On Ebay the hood is real CF over fiberglass frame. Their quality is reported to either be abolutly fantastic...or sometimes really bad...but judging from their feedback, there's more good then bad. in any case, its very cheap, even after shipping costs. should i buy it from a reputed store or take a chance on this? by any chance have you boxter/996ers bought one off them? i wonder if that white spot in the bottom left of the pic is just a reflection/lens flair from the camera or a defect in the hood.. also..just wondering if the boxer (986) and carrera (996) hoods were identical?

POST 2Original post

It depends on how much money you will save. I know that a new is about $800 so if you are buying this for less than $350 then go for it. The Boxster and 996 uses the same hood. From the picture it looks good, and fiberglass and CF does not bend so there should be no defects other than actual cracks.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok. sounds good. yeah new they're like 800+shipping etc... i figure i can get this one for about 275+shipping...so its not bad. i'm just wondering tho..if there are scratches or bubbles in the clearcoat, that can be fixed right by just wetsanding it down and recoating it, correct?

POST 4Original post

Depends how thick the clear is painted. Wetsand and polish can fix it. Either way it would not cost too much to respray clear at a shop.

POST 5Original post

CF is messy to work with and will deteriorate over time due to UV. I'd stick with stock alum hood. Are you trying to save a few lbs or trying to look different?
