Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I want to remove the 3m film from the bottom 1/3 of the hood. Plan to leave it on the front bumper, mirrors, gas fill, and behind the wheel wells. After a professional detail the other day it is obvious that the film has really started to become less transparent - and is most noticeable on the hood piece - the others aren't nearly as milky. The car is not a daily driver, so I would rather sacrifice a little protection to enjoy a well polished hood. I bought the car second hand so I wasn't there for the install. Are there any particular procedures for peeling it off? Do I need to heat it at all? Or just start peeling? Anyone have an experience with removal? I expect to see some variation once it is off, but hoping a good wash and wax with make it uniform. Should I expect residue. Frankly, I don't even know how the film is applied. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

It's pretty straight foward. In the summer you can park the car in the sun to leat the film heat up..but in D.C. this time of the year you're going to have to add heat. It's easier with 2 people...one applying head (and making sure not too much heat) and the other pulling the film back. There will be some residue left behind but 3M adhesive remover should do the trick. then polish/seal/wax and you should be good to go.
