Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok Car 1. 2002 carrera 2 with gt3 areo kit. I really like the interior of the 996 Car 2. 97 993 tt I love the body on the 993tt, but the interior remineds me of my 86 turbo and 75 carrara Im torn this will be a daily driver. the 996 has it strong points but the 993tt has the power. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

POST 2Original post

I love the body style of the 993 TT, but I'm not sure if I would want one for a daily driver. I'm looking to add a 993 TT to my garage but I have a c4s for a daily driver... if there aren't any mechanical reasons to avoid the 993 TT then it's just a matter of style...

POST 3Original post

i have a '99 996 C2 Coupe. yes, the interior is quite comfortable, it makes for a very pleasant daily driver (which mine is). nothing beats the style of the 993, in any of the body styles, especially that of the S and TT. 996 definately for the daily driver, 993 for the style/originality. good luck

POST 4Original post

The only concern with a 993 would be the age, and you could expect more mechanical problems with it, and being not under warranty could be a problem. Then there is the look, which you say you like the exterior of the 993 but like the 996 interior more. These are the only positives i can think of for the 996. In terms of performance the cars are not even in the same league, i bought my 03 C4S for a little more than a 993tt would have cost for it's whole package and not just the performance, i am not disillusioned that it is a faster car, neither is a 2002 carrera 2. But, the carrera 2 and my C4S are no slouch when it comes to performance but not quite a 993tt or 996tt. So, if you would not be bothered much by possible mechanical problems (which will make me go crazy)you should definitely get the 993tt.

POST 5Original post

Two totally different cars. The style of interior and exterior are totally subjective. Let your opinion/heart/mind be the guide to which you prefer. What are your goals for the car other than daily driver? Track? modifications? Are you a power junkie? All these questions are important in determining which car is better for you. Do you want true one touch climate control? Do you like a quite ride or visceral? Drive both and decide what suits your needs. As for reliability and age...I wouldn't be afraid of a well maintained 993tt. Records and maintenance history are very important along with a very good PPI by someone who has experience with 993tts. The TT aspect is always going to me more maintenance than a NA car but the 993 is a very well sorted out and reliable car. The long term reliability and durability of the 996 still remains to bee seen. Enjoy the decision making process.

POST 6Original post

What a tough decision... will this be your only daily driver? If so, I would vote for the C2 assuming you really like the GT-3 aero kit. It has the interior you prefer, probably has fewer miles than the 993, and it still has 2 years left on the factory warranty which IMO is a huge advantage for a solo daily driver. If you have "other" daily driver options, then I'd spring for the 993TT for reasons of pure Porsche indulgence and intoxication...

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks guys I do have another car but its a 300ce AMG. As for m last car its a 2000 S4 that pumped up.. so u can say im a power junky. Also I will mod the car This is one of the hardest decisions i have had to make. Both car make my heart pump. I might have to just toss a dart and see what i get lol.

POST 8Original post

I recently had to make the same decision. I picked the 996 mainly because the 993 in the end seems too much like an OLD car; interior and rain gutters, etc. I also wanted the modern engine. If you like the power then I'd consider a 2000 TT; borrow some more money I've had no regrets with the 996

POST 9Original post

Boy, that's a tough choice. I picked 996 because it's my daily driver (well almost -- see a previous post of mine -- I haven't quite reconciled myself to 20-25k miles/year yet). Reliable, under warranty (for now), and much nicer interior than the 993. But, I think 993s are gorgeous. I still wish I had one, they just look so great. If it's not your daily driver that's a really hard decision.

POST 11Original post

I agonized over this very thing, as many have. The IMHO the 993 is the best looking car ever made, but I went for the 996C2 for better ride, nicer interior, and low mileage/warranty. BTW, I have an S4 as my power car as well. People just don't believe that it can walk away from my Porsche 'til they ride in it. Then they just soil their shorts. Ed

POST 13Original post

Acciardi, is your S4 stock or modified? I stock S4 cant keep up with a 996C2 in pure power accelaration. J.Seven

POST 14Original post

Begining this year I was exactly on the same situation you are, but I was also considering a 355. I went to Germany with my mind cleared up, it was a 993TT that I was going to buy. When I arrived at the dealer, 993TT was parked next to a 996 Cab with the new headlights. The 993TT just paled next to the beautiful Cab. I ended up buying a 996 Cab and I dont regret my decision as I live in a country where the sun shines almost all year, but Im sure the 993TT would give me a much exotic ownership. I would make some power upgrades, and it would become a road monster, something the 996 will never be. Even today I still look for the prices in the market for a 993TT just to keep me informed, and I might buying one in the future as I find it one of the best and most singular Porsche ever made. For everyday use the 996 might be a better option though. J.Seven

POST 15Original post

I can sort of identify with your decision as I just sold a NA 993 to get my 996. I agonized over selling my 993 for 6 months prior to actually doing it. Unfortunately finances would not allow me to get a 993tt. There is no question the 996 is a more comfortable daily driver, however, your past indicates you will want to play with the car. The NA 996 is not going to satisfy your desire to modify for more power (unless you are willing to go the route of forced induction on the NA engine). If the interior and ride of the 996 are to your liking then I would suggest a 996tt if your finances permit. You get the best of both worlds, the interior and the ride quality of the NA 996 but with the tuning potential of the 993tt. Not to mention the engine of the 996tt is based on the proven and very robust 993 engine.

POST 16Original post

Just some more facts. On my search for a 993TT I test drove at least four of them. The power is very good, although not intoxicant, the handling was better than expected and inside engine noise wasnt very loud but rasonably present. The things that I didnt liked was the very small (Im 6.2/1.90Mts) interior and the old inside look and driving position. You could really feel that you were driving an old scholl car. I remember the dealer that was inside the car testing it with me, was so close to me, we could almost touch our shoulders and that was very uncofortable. To switch on the radio I had to take my back completely from the seat, its far away from you The 996 felt much more modern, more ergonomic, much better interior and lots of space for a tall guy like me. Mine has the PSE, so engine sound is terrific, but it needs more power, much more power, that is my main complain about the 996. Its very funny to drive, and only with steering and accelarator you can have the tail loose and control the slide in a very easy and amusing manner, but down the straight, youll feel the 993TT would be a much better option Well, think I didnt help that much J.Seven

POST 17Original post

> Acciardi, is your S4 stock or modified? I stock S4 cant keep up with a > 996C2 in pure power accelaration I have what's considered a stage 2 car (stock turbos, but intake, chip and exhaust). I have the GIAC X chip which is good for around 400 lb-ft of torque. The low-end grunt really flattens your eyeballs. The stock turbos run out of steam at triple-digit speeds, but a chipped S4 is just sick for zooming around town. The stock S4 feels about as fast as the 996, which is pretty tame compared to what's out there these days.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

acciardi My S4 is APR stage 2+ on a failing stock clutch I ran a 13.2 and just put in a stage 2 spec clutch in but then i decided to sell it. So if u know anyone thats looking for one Im asking 24k as is or 20k stock

POST 20Original post

Just a casual observation: I hardly ever see 993's out on the roads. Where are they all?

POST 21Original post

I see lots of 993s in the Bay Area. They are all in CA apparently

POST 22Original post

But, I've taken it to a DE event and there's no comparison to my C2. Sure, my s4 is faster in a straight line, but try taking it on some turns and you'll know the truth. The C2 is so much more nimble, and the throttle response is awesome! I'm a power junky myself, but I don't find myself missing the s4 when I'm ripping in my C2. To me, the power in the C2 is more than adequate. I'm just fortunate to have both. But the one that leaves a sh*t eating grin on my face is the PORSCHE!! Best of luck! btw, i did test drive a 96' 993TT, and went with the 996.
