I believe Sunset simply uses a set margin over cost (15%?), so, unless Porsche has raised the price, then Sunset probably hasn't.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone seen a good price on PSE recently? I think I'm ready to order and install myself and the places recommended by past threads, like Brandywine Porsche and Sunset, seem to have raised their prices (to $1550 plus shipping and $1800 plus shipping respectively).

POST 2Original post

Just put mine on last weekend, and I am not sure I am going to keep it. It is alot louder than I thought it would be, like riding my Harley, you get on it and everyone within 2 blocks hears you. Haven't done the electrics yet, I am going to try just wiring the valves shut for a few minutes to see how it sounds. If I decide not to keep it I will make you a good deal. I bought it used, but it is in great shape and it is the later model PSE with the lartger by-pass pipes and the extension for the newer rear end tail pipe locations.

POST 4Original post

wire the switch. It sounds pretty much stock when you deactivate PSE. I only turn it off late at night in my neighborhood or if I'm on my cellphone.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If you don't like the sound with the valves shut or just don't want to wire it, I'd be interested for sure.

POST 6Original post

Defo buy it if at a good price #1 upgrade for the money by far I've been driving my car a lot more recently and PSE makes every trip a blast I actually just got my emissions checked today and as the guy fired it up i got shivers down my spine it sounded so awesome nothing sounds quite as good as you nail it under an underpass or in a tunnel I don't have the switch, and under 3000 rpm it doesn't sound that different, in the morning I tiptoe on the throttle so as not to scare the neighbours, 10 am onwards..... well, lets says they get the full Porsche sound reverberating down the street! I am getting my B & M SSK next week from Vivid (racing not **** studio), and i can't wait

POST 7Original post

I want to buy a pair of PSE's, but 2K is a little high...anybody knows where we get a good discount?

POST 8Original post

I paid $1400 for the kit from Sunset. Plus about $25 for the switch, which, believe it or not, is not included in the wiring portion of the kit. This price, or one close to it, is also occasionally advertised by Brandywine in PA.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Those were the type of prices I heard last year when it was discussed on this forum but they seemed to have raised the prices this year. Was $1400 that including shipping?

POST 10Original post

Where do you guys recommend looking for a used set? I've had a saved eBay search mailing me results for a few weeks now, but I'm mostly getting zTek, Boxster exhausts, etc. No PSEs for 911s -Justin

POST 11Original post

No. Shipping from Oregon to Georgia was $50. I did not include it in my post, as it will vary widely depending upon your location. I had to look up my invoice to answer that question, so I'll give you the exact details: PSE System: List: 2090.77 Net: 1400.00 Switch: List: 26.89 Net: 23.25 I believe Sunset simply uses a set margin over cost (15%?), so, unless Porsche has raised the price, then Sunset probably hasn't. The simplest thing to do is call / email and ask. They are terrific to work with. All my dealings have been with Jeff.

POST 12Original post

You are correct, Sunset is 15% of cost (or what they refer to as net). So....$1400 +15% would come to $1610 plus shipping. Not good, but by no means a bad price. I bought mine for $1500 shipped but that was 2 or three years ago.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, that's what I thought and that's why I was surprised when they said $1800 plus shipping. Maybe I didn't talk to Jeff when I called.....?

POST 14Original post

That wouldn't have made a difference. Maybe the pricing system has changed (not Sunset but PCNA). You know those prices changes like the market!

POST 15Original post

Kim....then your invoice differs from how they "normally" do it. I have made probably 20+ orders over the years with them and the invoice ALWAYS has the line item number/description, then the retail and net (being dealer cost as they define it) and the LAST line item on your itemized list of items is called "handling charge" which is 15% of the total net. Then shipping on top of that which is at the very bottom of the form. I'd be interested to see that reciept. Did you negotiate something different then?

POST 16Original post

Dell .... a mystery, I guess. No special deals. I just called up Jeff, got a quote, and ordered. The invoice (which I hope to attach via a scan) looks just like the 5 others I have accumulated from Sunset over the past 16 months.

POST 17Original post

You do NOT have item number "ZZZ Handling" listed. Do any of your invoices have the "ZZZ handling charge" item? If not, then there is something in your file with Sunset that has kept it from being charged. Thus you are getting the parts at their "cost". Sounds like a win-win situation for you!

POST 18Original post

Moving to Carolina in June and can't wait! My response to you......delete all posts in this thread and delete the thread!

POST 19Original post

Way to go, Dell! You just helped him "kill" all future "good deals" he has been getting! On the other hand, maybe we could get Kim to order parts for all of us if he dosen't get charged the 15%.

1495!??!?!? I am going to buy a set tomorrow.....thought the going rate was 2200 bucks! If it is 1500 I need NEED NEED a better sound. I am going to call tomorrow and will post what they said (both brandywyn and sunset)

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, please do. It seems like everyone that calls gets a different price.

POST 24Original post

just checked it out with sunset and they charging 1803 plus shipping....circle porsche in Long Beach charges 2258 plus tax...but gives 10% discount for PCA members...so Sunset is still cheaper

POST 25Original post

Try Carlsen Porsche: 3636 Haven Ave Redwood City, CA 94063 Main: [phone removed] Sales: [phone removed] If they have it on sale it will probably be the cheapest you will find. If not I think it was about $1800. For a short period of time last year (spring/summer) they had it on sale for $1250 + shipping.

POST 27Original post

I am in!!! for a group buy ..... let's see who gives us the best deal and how many have to join.

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That sounds awesome guys. I'd be very interested.

POST 29Original post

I would be in as well as I have been pricing it locally. Is it really dificult to install the electronics? Dealership wants 10 hours to install with them, it seems like a lot of time. Maybe I will get lucky and there will be one at Hershey this weekend. Lets get the group buy going.

POST 30Original post

I didn't keep close track, as I did it over the week my replacement bumper was being painted, and took some time each day. Having done it once, I'm sure I could beat the 10:00 you were quoted, but it is still a good day's work for an amateur like me. One of the main problems is that the TSB with instructions (does not come with kit) is not always clear, and, for some model years, contains inaccurate wiring instructions. The instructions for the vacuum installation are also fairly misleading ... so much so, that I feel compelled to address one issue right here ... just in case you attempt it. IGNORE all verbiage in the TSB concerning removing the throttle body in order to instal a new rubber ring to accept the vacuum lines. Simply buy an extra Y-piece (like the 2 included in the kit) and Y off of an EXISTING vacuum tap. Takes 2 minutes as opposed to hours. Having said that, there are some very good DIYs out there. I was saved by Orient Express, found right HERE . Another DIY addressing some of the confusing wiring issues is here: . Finally, I posted a Lessons Learned piece, avoiding duplication with the guys above, and covering a few of the hurdles I discovered. PSE Lessons Learned . If you're patient, at home with both wrenches and electrical connections, then there's no reason why you can't work your way through it.

POST 31Original post

if you don't install the "silence" button the PSE will always be in "loud" mode?? If so I don't really care about the button install.....will just "rolll" into my community. The PSE can never be as loud as my neigbors harley , shelby or the one with a 50tis ford pickup, which sounds like a muscle car on steroids. I have been reading up on the PSE for a couple of weeks now and for what I have read...it just sounds meaner than the stock and more raspy.....and that is exactly what I want. LET PUT TOGETHER A LIST OF INTERESTED PEOPLE and I can help calling around and seeing how many we have to order to get a better deal!!

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So basically, instead of following the directions, just connect both PSE mufflers to an existing vacuum source with Y-pieces, and then connect the electronics....? Do all those parts come as a kit? Can a dealer sell an extra Y-piece a la carte?

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It looks like from these pictures posted by Orient Express in another thread, that you tap the vacuum source next to the throttle body in this picture with a Y-Piece

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And then run the vacuum tube to this piece where it splits into two tubes one to each PSE muffler...? Maybe an extra Y-Piece isn't needed?

POST 35Original post

The majority of the instructions for installation are correct, however the only variance is as Kims996Cab said, no need to install a new intake runner bellows just to get a vacuum tap, just use the one that is there. The only additional part you need is another "Y" connector. You can either get a generic one from Pep Boys or get the Porsche one. BTW the Porsche one has a 944 part number, so you know it has been around for a while. The vacuum tap goes from the intake runner tap to a little vacuum reservoir comes with the PSE kit, then to the vacuum switch, and finally to each of the muffler diverter valves.

POST 36Original post

Yes, all the parts necessary come with the kit ... except for the extra (3rd) vacuum Y-connector that OE and I have mentioned. As the TSB directs, the first Y-connector goes on the vacuum supply line to share the vacuum between the PSE Vac. tank and the PSE electric vacuum switch (the "on-off" for the PSE). The second Y-connector takes the output of the vacuum switch and shares it between the two can actuator valves. The "extra", as advised by OE, is used to connect to an existing vacuum tap on the intake bellows .... and spilt between whatever was already using it and the PSE system. It will all make much more sense when you get into the installation .... just save these posts and read them again at that time. That's what I did ... with many such posts .... and it made my install go much calmer. OE mentions getting the extra Y-connector from Pep Boys or the like. I had a problem doing that. The supplied connectors are female at every point. Every auto supply place I tried had a variety of vacuum connectors .... but all MALE at every point. I finally resorted to using a male Y-connector and adding extra pieces of hose on each end to convert them to female. (call me crazy, but it does not look as nice and OEM). Female is what is needed to work with the existing and PSE vacuum lines. In the end, it would have been quicker and easier to run to a dealer and get a connector identical to those in the kit .... which had a 928 part number in my case, visible on the connector itself, and in the TSB parts list. By the way, the TSB implies the vacuum tank is optional, saying something like "if used" when referring to it. It can be difficult to get into position, so I went to RennTech and asked if other used it. When OE replied that he did, I persevered. Upon completion, I figured out that, at the least, the tank allows me to switch PSE to "quiet mode" after turning on the key, but before starting the car. (power-up default is loud mode). That is valuable to me, as I sometimes have to start up in the garage long before dawn, and I like being able to do it quietly.

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you OE and Kim. If you guys think of anything else that might be helpful, I know we'd all love to hear about it.
