Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sunny, in the high 60s, perfect day to take my 99' Porsche out for a brisk ride. Sunroof open , driver's window down headed down the highway at a decent clip and....no sounds, no vibrations, no smells(well, a little), no smoke, no CELs, no misfires, no lack of power, no problems of any kind, just a perfect ride on a perfect day in my 12 year old Porsche. Should I sell it before I have a catastrophic failure , or just keep enjoying my Porsche with the funny looking headlights?

POST 2Original post

1. Drive it until it drops. 2. Rebuild it better. 3. Goto 1.

POST 3Original post

68 and the sun is going down.....I'm leaving work and going for a spin. Us 12 year old car owners got to stick together! I like this time of the day when I can turn the parking lites on (with the yellow film)..my eggs glow just fine.

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 9009242

Are you refering to IMS or some other potential catastrophic failure?

POST 5Original post

I made a conscious effort to take all my concerns and bury them in a deep hole in the back yard a while ago. Now I just ENJOY my car. Quite liberating. Amazing .....

POST 6Original post

It was 69 with my 12 year old today. Wait, I meant to say my 12 year old was enjoying 69 today. Oh, no! I'm an old pervert!

POST 7Original post

Quotes source posts: 9009242, 9009305

That's what it's about... Drive and Enjoy! LOL, I know what you mean... I think.

POST 8Original post

I washed, polished (Auto Glym) and buffed my 11 year old Boxster S yesterday. Then sat down and had a couple of beers just looking at that basic black (swart) paintwork. And the leather seats still smell new..... And the wheel paintwork look good too..... And the soft top material is still as new even after all these years in the Australian sun !!!! Hell, Porsche's tub up well with a bit of elbow grease & TLC. Perhaps I'm preaching to the congregation here, but sometimes its good to hear positive things amidst all the doom & gloom.....

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 9009305

Nah...when I was 12 I was dreaming 69 24-7...well still do. Move over in the booth, I need to sit down

POST 10Original post

lots of thoughts. drive it. quite simple. detail it. of course. when walking away turn back to look. just put on snow tires. dd for me.

POST 11Original post

60+ degree top down day here. Got in a 70 mile twisty back road run (took the long way) to my fathers house and back. Was getting cool on the way back so I had to put the windows up and turn up the heat. Yeah I know it looks goofy with top down and windows up. I don't care I loved it.

POST 12Original post

I just got mine aligned and set to GT3 height. All aligned and ready to go. What a beautiful thing driving her with the new set up

POST 13Original post

Who cares about the lights? The 996 ones are more aero dynamic (I can't back that comment up). I do admit I do like the look of the pre 996 and 997 on headlights - they are timeless. It doesn't make me hate my car or like it any less, it's just differernt and was on the market for 6 years.

POST 14Original post

Just got back from a good little run. 64 degrees out, moon was up, top down, listening to the engine through the FisterD's, nice twisty road. Grinning the whole time. Hard to believe I've had this car almost five years. Yeah, it sucks being a 996 owner!

POST 15Original post

12 years old and she still runs like a top, drives like she's new and draws all the attention one could want (if one wants any?!)........more importantly, the driver still wears a huge smile when out for a spin.......why would anyone want to get rid of her???? We will continue to be happy together for a long time. Continue to drive her....just look at adjusting the reserves for "maintenance items." We are about to embark on a long, cold winter...mine will be tucked away, slumbering and dreaming of Spring, clean roads, open track and auto-x........but for now, with almost 70 degrees due around here........she's gonna stretch her legs for a bit. In short, don't sell, simply enjoy, repeat often!

POST 16Original post

Thank's Barn996 I had similar thread in mind, too much noise and vibration threads... Oh, I have allso drove my car about 1500km's after rebuild and it's just keeps going. Just love it It's allso nice to see that some of you US guys change to winter's before I do

POST 17Original post

I am very concerned that I will not get to drive my car enough this season.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Actually, my comments on selling and the headlights were a bit tongue in cheek. I was absolutely enjoying everything about my 996 yesterday, and am still impressed by the overall package and driving thrills that I have whenever I get behind the wheel of my Porsche.

and corner balanced?

POST 20Original post

Steve... yesterday I was about to pop up on the freeway sitting at one of those "metering lights" and did what you did - opened the sunroof and said "bring it on"!! although not a 996 my old car still has things that will make you nervous, I dont know why - I guess its that we love them SOO much we are afraid they will hurt us - I put my fears aside as often as I can and enjoy the simple pleasures - and everyday I smile great post, sell the car quick...get a Prius!

POST 22Original post

I had the same thought yesterday evening... as it was still 55 outside at 9PM.

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 9010406

Well, when talking to dealer and other people in the industry I was told as long as car is properly adjusted to ride height and aligned properly the corner balancing is not necessary. SOOO... I did not do this. I read and read on the topic and as long as I don't go RACE CAR MODE its not needed?

POST 24Original post

DUDE........ the biggest (IMO) reason for going with a system like PSS9 IS to corner ballance the car...yea better ride height, yea adjustable dampening...but your weights (esp front) are the biggest contributor to good handling on track....and street <flame suit on> I know a lot of guys dont.....so you wont be "harming" the car...but you are not getting the full monty on the system..... just sayin, when you can (I know money is tight for many of us.....so i get it) but when you can.....get it done

POST 25Original post

Got a 99 myself. Smile on my face every time I take a ride. It sucks that I have to put it in storage but my lazy a$$ has not even got the car cover etc to get it ready. Still looking for a chance to drive it around. Enjoy!!

POST 26Original post

I went for a drive last weekend with a few 996 buds!

POST 27Original post

went for a drive today in the mk1.... she has been neglected because Im getting carried away.

tearing her down for a repaint, doors/ glass will be off the car. Replacing all the rubber seals on the body, doors, glass etc, took out all the AC components, taking out all rusted bolts/brackets etc.... essentially replacing/refurbushing any suspected parts so that car will last another 25 years. Still contemplating on how to lighten her up a bit... Suspension has been fully rebuilt and upgraded. Ed helped me out with the shifter and the 915 tranny is now a pleasure to drive. The Engine is stock and just finished adjusting the valves, will put a cat delete, sport exhaust and a Steve Wong chip.... I have a ductail and H1 headlights... that will be all body wise. Plan to set it up for occasional DE's but mostly she will be a wind in the hair twisty carver. I originally bought this car to be driven mostly every day.... but I just found out how truly **** I am.... such a curse.

POST 30Original post

I'd say Keep her and keep rolling along as us 996 folks do. Enjoy.

POST 33Original post

Damn Barn........ thanks a lot! All I have this lousy newer 2010 C2S Coupe! I am so jealous! I'm glad you are still enjoying her!

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Alright Tim, as much as this hurts me, I'll drive my wonderful 996 to SC and we can swap our Porsches even Steven. How does that sound to you? No doubt you'd be much better off worrying about IMSB with my car,
