Met a nice guy at a local Meineke that was actually enthusiastic about doing it....I guess doing a Porsche mod was more exciting as opposed to replacing OEM mufflers and patching holes on everyday cars.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After reading Gota911's post about modding stock cans to PSE cans, I think I'd like to do the same. My only question, is that I will be using 1999 cans. If I do the crossover pipe in the same manner as Gota911's, will it yield the same result? I believe his cans were 2000 cans.

POST 2Original post

It should work fine. From what I saw when I took a set of 99 cans apart they looked the same.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Kewl...thanks. I'll post my results next week.

POST 4Original post

LOL vu. You REAALLLYYYY like modding your wife's car I bet she begged you for this, no?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This falls under the maintenance category..... The mufflers need to be inspected at 60K...while they're out might as well do an "adjustment" to the air flow pattern to promote efficiency. This efficiency may also yield better mpg....better for the environment too! Only "negative" is that the car might be a tad noiser. I'm willing to live with that.... Yeah.....that's it!!

POST 6Original post

The cans are different on the 99-01 models. The mod is not as straightforward as you might think. I took my 2000 to the muffler shop, took some prints of the mod with me, had the guys have a look at it and they advised against it. My recommendation would be to get a hold of 2002 & up mufflers or just buy Fabspeeds.

POST 7Original post

Yves - The cans I have are either 2000 or 2001. The only real difference I noticed between the PSE MOd cans and my stock 2004 cans was the "accordion" looking part of the pipe coming from the cats. The 2004 can (on the right in both pics) has it ,the older cans (on the left) do not.

POST 8Original post

Hey Vu, Where are you getting the work done? Did you get a price quote? I was thinking about doing this mod too on my 2000 cab. Please keep me posted. Also, what's your schedule like next week? If you can meet me in Tysons I can give you the CDR-220 and radio code card. -Gary

POST 10Original post

Look, guys, I have opened up both 99 and 02 mufflers. I did not see any internal difference. The expernal difference is the accodian thing as Tim pointed out and where the new pipe connects the round area has a ridge. BTW they sound great

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Met a nice guy at a local Meineke that was actually enthusiastic about doing it....I guess doing a Porsche mod was more exciting as opposed to replacing OEM mufflers and patching holes on everyday cars. Mufflers were already off the car. He took a sawzall and carefully sliced of the end of the cap. Then bent a 2 inch pipe about 45 degrees and carefully trimmed the ends to fit nicely on to the exit pipe and end of cap. Welded it all up and voila.....done in less than two hours. Cost: $160 I'll be installing them on Monday...will report back with results. The Meineke is off Backlick Road in Springfield. Ask for Zeno. We can hook up next week if you want to hear it and we can do the radio swap too. You're also welcome to come over Monday as I and a couple fellas will be installing H&R springs, doing 60K mile service, and muffler install PM me for directions.

POST 12Original post

I like the sound. It is deeper, more throaty, and louder. It is not Cup car loud, which I wouldn't want anyway. I like it! I have never heard an actual PSE in person, so I can't compare this mod to actual PSE.

POST 13Original post

Newbie here...and I haven't figured out how to resize my picture small enough to upload it...but more importantly, I have a lead on used 01 PSE mufflers; does anyone know whether they will they fit my 99 C2? Also have a line on some Techarts; anybody have a soundclip I can listen to or know how they compare to the PSE's? Gota911, your description of a deeper, more throaty, and louder sound but not Cup car loud, is exactly what I'm looking for. Since I am a newbie, a short introduction: I purchased the 996 this past Oct; it's bone stock, silver w/ black interior and had 49k miles. This is my third; I had an '83 Targa previously and a gorgeous 914 years ago when attending Cal Poly Pomona. I've had tons of cars but the PCar is the best! My only complaint with the 996 is its so damn quiet! I'm also contemplating an Evo intake and chip. Oh yeah, anybody heard the Schnell exhaust? Thanks!

POST 15Original post

Dale - Welcome and congrats on getting your 996. Since your "intro" might get lost here on this thread, I recommend that you start a new "intro" thread. The link below is to an on line image re-sizing site. http://www.resize2mail.com/ Sorry, I can't answer your question about fitting '01 cans on a '99.

POST 17Original post

Just did the conversion today at a local Meineke shop, on a 99 C2 , they charged me $237 including installation... An am not quite certain it is louder.. a bit deeper sound perhaps.. I am still considering Fabspeed Vs. PSE...

POST 18Original post

Does anyone know if mufflers off a 2003 C4S will fit on a 1999 C2 ? What about tips ? Thanks Sid

POST 19Original post

I have them on my 99 C2. Make sure you keep your 99 brackets as the 2003 brackets will not fit.

POST 20Original post

Yes they should. I have the 02 C4S cans on my car.
