Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

traffic is not the only factor, I like my coffee and ability to use cell when driving, sometimes even a blackberry.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

If you are not proficient in driving with a manual transmission, you will be able to drive the TIP faster.
Everything being equal
, the 6 speed is substantially (5% +) quicker than the TIP due to increased weight and drivetrain loss in the TIP.
Here's the thing....if you live anywhere there is a lot of traffic, then get the Tip if you think that your leg and arm will get tired shifting. Otherwise, it's so much more of a driving experience to wind through the gears and shift manually. Kind of a zen thing, I guess. Indeed, there's tons of traffic here in the city and I still went with a manual.
The biggest advantage with the manual is with the launch.
I drove a Miata recently with an automatic, and it was a ball. The paddles were a blast to engage with very little delay between selection and gear engagement. So if I had to do a lot of stop and go driving, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a car with an automatic.
I have a 2003 C4 TIP cab with hardtop. Had a 1998 993 6-speed soft top, so I may be able to provide some insight into having both. I also drove the 996 in a 6-speed, much easier to drive than the 993. Let me know if I can help.
I personally think the driving characteristics of a flat 6 are not conducive to an auto
I felt that when I drove a tip 993/996/boxster and also the new Subaru B9 tribeca it just did not suit an auto box
in fact when I first drove a boxster tip, it nearly put me off buying the car completely, it was only when I drove a manual it all came together
but, if you live in an area with heacy traffic and it will be your DD then you may have no other choice
traffic is not the only factor, I like my coffee and ability to use cell when driving, sometimes even a blackberry. Shifting with the thumbs is not all that bad. I have a M3 convert but I use the 911 everyday. M3 will be my crappy day car, I lik eto try to keep the 911 clean.
The acceleration is fine on highways, and the same in the turns, I would argue better control since both hands are on the wheel and you can rev it up and shift out with better handling.
how about a wife that can't drive stick?? in an emergency she has to be able to get it from A to B..eventhough she is nervous sitting in the passenger seat.
In Europe I had a 928 stick...and it loved the autobahn...but here in the States (and being a track racer)... a tip is the way to go.....and you can always go to auto-manual, espcially when cornering!!
The tip is very sluggish when driving normal...5th gear at 45mph.....but if you "hit it" depending on the pressure applied to the pedal...it shift down 1 or 2 gears and you will feel the "kick in the back"
and 1/2 a second?? who cares. besides the cops!!
If you are serious about enjoying driving (especially track days) then manual is the way to go. However, I live in a country with only 3million people and not many of them are in my town. This country is Porsche heaven.
