I honestly wanted to know since I totally support raffles when they go to a good cause and besides I probably could have used the cover as well (had I won).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Imagine Auto is raffling off a brand new Porsche Silverguard car cover for a 996 Carrera without the tail (Part number PNA506996). This has the security cable as well. We will sell 20 $10.00 tickets and will pull a name from a hat on Dec 1st. You can buy a ticket up until December 1st, or until the 20 tickets are sold, which ever comes first. Also, for those who buy a raffle ticket, but do not win the cover, we will convert your $10.00 raffle ticket to a $10.00 credit to Imagine Auto, which can be redeemed until March 1st of 2006. This retails for $189.24, and shipping will be covered by IA. One ticket per person. You can give us a call at [phone removed] and ask for Nate (NiATE), Karl (karl2bdc), or Aaron (ImagineAuto), or PM us for a ticket.

POST 3Original post

Donating the raffle proceeds to charity or just using this as a way to pull in greater than retail on this item?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since we are giving $10 credit to all those who buy a ticket for the cover for a total of $190 in credits and giving away a car cover for essentially 10 dollars, we are not making anything on the cover, just thought it would be a cool way to get rid of it. Thanks for the support. Edit: I used 20 tickets for a nice round number. If you want, i'll sell 17 tickets, thus less than retail, would that help? How about 15 tickets? Boy the odds are getting better....

POST 5Original post

Sure hope you aren't being a smart *** because if you are (which is how it is coming across with that type of answer) then I have a feeling you are going to turn off alot of people here and not garner any support. I was asking a serious question and thought I would get an intelligent answer. Guess I was looking for a little honesty in your reply.....how silly of me to expect that.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And your post was rather insulting, if you would have read my original post, you would understand how the deal works in that we were giving credit to everyone who bought a ticket and didn't win....if you do the math, we are basically giving the cover away, not making more than retail.

POST 7Original post

If that's how you see it, then so be it. Take my post as insulting if you wish, but I asked a serious question. Quite the attitude from a vendor. Explain to me again how selling (sorry, I mean raffling) a cover for $200 that most of us could get for 1/2 that on eBay brand new from another vendor is doing us a favor? I asked a simple question looking for honesty. Since, raffle usually is synonomous with proceeds going to charity, etc., I asked simply if this was a charity auction or just for profit sake to sell (I mean raffle) an item. Was hoping for a straight answer from a vendor not a childish remark like you gave. Best of luck to you with your sale (I mean raffle).

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

6 tickets sold, 14 available.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And here you have the chance to get the cover for 10 bucks, and if you don't win, you still are left with a $10 credit. Seems simple to me. Sorry if you think i am a smart ***.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

haha, and dell.....i just dropped 10 bucks out of my wallet in the pot with your name on it......hehe you're in the raffle whether you like it or not

POST 11Original post

And if my name is pulled, like I would really receive it. We'll see. Can't imagine anybody being happy with me being the winner if you tossed in the $10 for me. Anyway, like I said, best of luck. I was really just trying to find out what type of raffle it was. No hard feelings

POST 12Original post

You should really talk to your accountant and/or attorney BEFORE you hold a raffle if you are a for-profit company. BTDT

POST 13Original post

The next time I take an aspirin, I will check with my doctor too! I don't see anything wrong with this raffle. Sure it may be easier to buy the cover on eBay (debateable) for $140, however, that's not the point. I think this is a great sales promotion for a business.

POST 14Original post

Geez, Honestly guys this was a way to get rid of a car cover for free to the list we support. I have been here since PorscheFans and have given away TONS of stuff in support to John and Jen. The idea here is even if you don't win you do because you end up with a credit from us. Use it for anything. We thought it was a cool way for us to give it away to a crowd that would appreciate it rather than answer some knucklehead's questions on eBay and haggle for 20 bucks there. Not worth it. So for 10 bucks there ya go. You can't beat that.

POST 15Original post

Thanks, but as much as I would love to be a not for profit company and independently wealthy and give it all away we are not. I almost work for nothing sometimes that is sure. Tell you what make the raffle 50 bucks and I will donate 40 of that to a charity of choice and will match that amount.

POST 16Original post

Just trying to help you avoid a future headache, raffles held by for-profits are illegal just about everywhere in the USA. That is why I suggested you contact your accountant and/or attorney. I (my parents) went through this 20+ years ago when my youth soccer league tried to hold a raffle. In the end we had to go door-to-door returning all money. The IRS, Massachusetts DOR and attorney general got involved and it was a big mess for a stupid little raffle. Personally I think it is a great way to get rid of a car cover but ...

POST 17Original post

It becomes an issue when the parties do nothing with the money. Such as no credit, no contribution to a charity etc. To just take the money is illegal as explained. You are 100% correct. Even if the end result is someone does win the cover. That is why we are giving credit to all the others who do not receive the price.

POST 18Original post

I can't believe the Sh*t you are taking for such a simple thing. I don't understand at all the negative comments by Dell? His posts are usually reasonable??? I would do it except I don't need a cover.

POST 19Original post

Sounds to me like total misunderstanding. I asked a simple question and got a childish response. I never made a negative comment until I was attacked by this smarty pants from IA. Not sure what you constitute as negative. Besides, this could have been totally avoided had my initial request been answered honestly. I honestly wanted to know since I totally support raffles when they go to a good cause and besides I probably could have used the cover as well (had I won). Had he said one of two things we wouldn't even be where we are right now. Either (1) We are raffling off this cover with the proceeds going to the "XYZ" charity fund.......or (2) just trying to unload this cover and thought raffling it off would be the best way to move it. But, he couldn't do that and instead decided to go into child mode and that is where it went downhill.

POST 20Original post

I don't think your smart A** comment about a way to pull in greater that retail was at all necessary...IMO that is negative. That was uncalled for. It was quite clear what IA was offering. Sorry, you should fall on your sword on this one!

POST 21Original post

Now that I re-read it with your explanation I can understand how it could have come across that way (which was NOT the intent). I offer my apologies to IA for that. Falling on sword as I type............

POST 25Original post

Now that is about the most standup thing I have seen on these boards in a while. With all sincerity thank you. Karl is my right hand, good freind and about the best guy you could ever meet! He REALLY did put 10 dollars in with your name. That is the kind of guy he is. Thanks again!

POST 26Original post

You are very welcome. Pass along my apologies to Karl as well.
