Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Obviously check the coolant, oil level, engine bay for obstructions, etc...
Leading evidence: 'Check coolant, oil level, engine bay' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check coolant, oil level, engine bay' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Well check the tires especially the sidewalls for cracking, before toring put fuel preservative in the recommended amounts, could make sure the battery is charged fully before cranking to take it easy on the alternator, gett a big breated woman to take the first ride with you so in case the car breaks down instruct her to push with her breasts so that the force doesn't dent the car, get fresh gas as soon as possible, work the engine u slowly so as to give the seals time to revitalize ie a tank of gas or so.

Suggestion
It may be worth while to pull the fuses for the fuel pump/ignition so that you can crank the engine a few times to get the oil pressure up and re-lubricate the motor.
Recommend amounts, could make sure the battery is charged fully

If it fires, I shut if off then, crank it again and once it fires up I let it run for a while, check the tire pressures, make sure all the bounce sheets are removed.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 996 been under the car cover in storage for almost 5 months. I have not started it since October. The oil has about 500 miles on it. So probally won't change it. Tire pressure will be checked. Question is. Should I just start it up & go? Or check on anything else?
The weather was great yesterday huh? I finally got my car back on the road a few days ago. It may be worth while to pull the fuses for the fuel pump/ignition so that you can crank the engine a few times to get the oil pressure up and re-lubricate the motor. Obviously check the coolant, oil level, engine bay for obstructions, etc... After cranking the motor without combustion... plug the fuses back in and start her up and let the car idle until it reaches operating temperatures.
Next time, I recommend you change the oil prior to storage so that way you flush out the contaminated oil. I literally change the oil and drive a few miles then put the car to sleep.
I agree with Ryan's advice above. And 911Mike's oil is just fine. He only drove 500 miles prior to winter hibernation.
Build a little oil pressure, start it, check it over, and drive and get fresh gas.
I hope to fire up the Turbo in about 2 weeks. Been in hibernation since first week of December. The Boxster won't see action till late April, and it's been sleeping since mid October. Both had about 1,000 miles on the oil prior to storage.
I asked this question on the PCA Tech board and received this answer.
Vehicle Information: Year: 1995; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 80,000;
I have seen lots of postings concerning storing a car for winter but not much about getting it out of storage (in my case, for the last 5 months), especially about prepping the engine before starting. I have seen suggestions about grounding the distributor and cranking until the oil pressure registers (w/ fuel pump disabled), removing the plugs and putting oil in the cylinder, or as I was planning to do, hop in and fire it up. What's best? and How should I do it? Thanks.
I was wondering when someone would ask this! The oil pressure should register immediately. If it doesn't, there is no reason to keep cranking, since the engine has to be removed and torn down. Unless you've really messed it up in the fall, you should be able to just start it up in the spring. You don't want to crank it with the plugs removed of course since it will spray compressed fuel mixture back up out the spark plug holes. I like to take it easy with the revs until it warms up a little bit, then rev it gently a little at a time to bring it back to life. Joel Reiser - PCA WebSite - 3/15/2004

Some seals and hoses shrink and can get mushy or such when oils and other fluids don't circulate over them.
Plenty of other things like plan a leasurely cruise would be a good idea for burning off the water in the oil.....while observing the speed limit. I'd suggest a few hundred miles or so. Maybe make a sign that says electric my butt and drive by the white house
I'm blaming the cough medication on this one.
Yeah, the weather sure is supposed to be real nice around here, too. Mid to upper 60's this coming week. I know it is a might bit early, but she may come out of hibernation very shortly. If you prepped your car b4 you put it away, should be ready to go. I will usually crank it over for a a few tries. If it fires, I shut if off then, crank it again and once it fires up I let it run for a while, check the tire pressures, make sure all the bounce sheets are removed. Fresh gas is alway a good thing, especially with this ethanol crap has been sitting in the tank for way to long. Haven't had any issues to date with this method.
