Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Long story short, I backed up into something and ruptured the coolant tube that's attached to the water pump. Purchased a new tube from the dealer according to the part number from PET for a 99+ 996 (996 106 250 55), when I removed the old tube I discovered that one of the elbow is different. The one from my car is (996 106 250 54), but according to PET that's a 98 part number. Is there an update to this hose? Dealer parts guy told me that they made some improvements to the original hose. In order to fit the new hose I will have to shorten the metal pipe in order for it to fit. Ideas?

POST 2Original post

There seem to be 3 versions of the hose that mate with 2 versions of the tube (4 versions of the tube if you count the M 480 and M 249 variants): -98 250.54 (hose) / 243.51 (tube) 99- 250.55 (hose) / 243.52 (tube) 02- 850.00 (hose) / 243.54 (tube, M 480) / 843.01 (tube, M 249) And there are other part number changes that cascade from the newer version of the tube. FWIW, the hose / tube on my car look just like the old hose and tube in your photo. I'd probably source the 250.54 hose rather than cutting the tube and rolling a bead in it for hose retention. But I can understand why you'd choose the latter as a fix that can be finished today.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Doug, Thank you for the information. I guess I will just order the right part number hose if they are avaliable. I can wait. In any case I have to replace the water pump AGAIN! The replacement unit only lasted several thousand miles before it started to leak around the shaft! Do 996 water pumps have a high number of failures?
