Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
It was the only way I could really remove the swirl marks.
Leading evidence: 'only way i could really remove the swirl marks' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'only way i could really remove the swirl marks' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use by hand' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. I know the Zymol instructions say to use linear strokes during application & buffing, but I can't see any difference.

I have one and find it very difficult to use on the 996's curves.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Since it's getting upwards of $200 for detailing my PCar, and I am not getting the proper results, I decided to attempt it myself. So, I washed and waxed my PCar last weekend for the first time in over 20yrs.
To my surprise I found it relaxing and enjoyed the time. Took me 2hrs total. I was so excited I bought all new detailing products. Here in lays my question... It took my 1.5hrs to wax my car. Would a Porter polisher speed and improve the process verses by hand?
Your thoughts?
I really like my Porter Cable. I feel like I get 2-3 nice thin even coats on my cars which look great. And of course it works very well taking out small scratches when needed.
If you have other older cars, I was able to get my 13 year old Mercedes looking great with it, too.
Eric, you don't understand the difference between a rotary polisher and a Porter Cable 7424. The latter is an orbital. You can crank it up to full speed, hold it hard in one place against a sharp edge of a panel, and it WILL NOT burn the paint.
I use one on my own car, and it's fantastic. While I've used it for polishing the swirls out of the clearcoat, it's also great for speeding up waxing. I put a microfiber bonnet over a wool pad; apply Zymol by hand, and then buff it off with the orbital on low speed. Speeds things up tremendously. I know the Zymol instructions say to use linear strokes during application & buffing, but I can't see any difference.

is the Rennlist equivalent for detailing - check it out.
I agre with Robert with regard to Autopia. Great resource. Use the search feature and you can find any thing. The other thing about autopia, it is like Rennlist in there are some very knowledgeable people but also some not so knowledgable. Read and enjoy, you will figure out what is good advice and what is worthless.
I love my PC (short for Random Orbital by Porter Cable). I use it for polish not waxing though. Using it for waxing can be a mixed result. Much will depend on the products you are using. Some lend themselves to use with the PC others are just a quick and easy to use by hand.
I have one and find it very difficult to use on the 996's curves. It was a lot easier to use on my '01 Audi S4. The next time, I know where to use it and where to do it by hand.
I too enjoy the Porter Cable. Great results. properautocare.com is also a good source of info. Getting the right chemicals/polishes for your paint and application method is the key.
well, depends on the pad you're using, with MOST pads, it will not burn the paint.
Autopia is definitly the place you want to check out. Very friendly and helpful people there. just don't let them turn you into one of them like they did me. a coat of this and a couple of coats of that, before you know it. You're spending 6-8 hours on your car.

I bought a Porter Cable when I got serious about cleaning up my Ocean Blue 996. It was the only way I could really remove the swirl marks. Take a look at Autopia for all the help you need... just be sure to try a search first.
Took me a while, but I finally found my 'Eureka!' post after my first PC session w. my car:
