Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Test gt3' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace carbon hood, remove sunroof etc.)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. In the case of the 996 they use the published MY99 weight of 2910.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Loren:
You are a font of information. Some questions:
Is MY03 boxer blocks?,
GT3 & C GT boxer blocks?
Cayenne isn't a Boxer block, is it still a MY03?
I have seen M96 designation for the RMS vulnerable blocks, is this incorrect?
Thanks in advance...
It is sad to say but those numbers are the official Porsche Web Site weights.
The real number are way higher than those.
My 2001 Boxster S with less than 1/8th of a gas tank was 2948 lbs, without the spare tire and tools, removed rear speaker console, 18" lightweight wheels, and Hoosier A3S03 245/35R18 (lighter than any street tire).
Car and Driver tested a GT3 with PCCB and no A/C. Weight was: 3219 lbs.
Twisted GT3 was 3167 lbs.
Weight on 996 Turbo is well over 3500 lbs, with C4S around the 3400 lbs mark.
Take your cars to any scale and verify it by yourself.
NJ-GT,
Unless I'm mistaken the published weights are dry (no fluids) and are from a base vehical so they have small wheels, no leather, etc.
The published weight is what PCA uses to set the minimum weight for club racing. In the case of the 996 they use the published MY99 weight of 2910. I can tell you from experience that after adding the wieght of a roll cage it is no small task getting a 996 down to that weight.
Jim
That's not quite correct, DIN weight is with all fluids (including full tank of gas).
However, otherwise you're correct, weight is as base model as it can be, no leather, sunroof etc.
Easiest way to save weight is to change seats. Stock seats are very heavy so with bucket seats you can easily take about 80 lbs off from your car.
Then you "need" to take all the sound deadening, rear seats etc. the list is long...
I've done some weight savings (in my 993) and current weight (with full tank of gas) is 2860 lbs. If I take gas & oils out, "dry weight" is 2715 lbs.
I have managed to remove 275 lbs at the moment but definitely I want to remove more than 300 lbs which should be relatively easy to di as I still have some "easy" items (i.e. change carbon hood, remove sunroof etc.).
When you remove 275 lbs from your car, you definitely can feel the difference, car feels and behaves much much better!
Finn, I'm sure you are right on the dry/wet deal. It is beyond me however how they managed to get a base 99 996 to weigh 2910 lbs. with around 90 lbs. of gas on board. It's fine with me though. We need all the help we can get given that they make us race in the same class as the 993 RS and 993TT.
M96 is the "family" of engines but RMS is mainly associalted with the Bosxter and 3.4l & 3.6l carrera engines which are based on the same design, while the turbo and GT3's are different.
I think it goes like this:
(RMS leak engines)
M96/01 - 3.4l carrera engine
M96/03 - 3.6l carrera engine
M96/20 - 2.5l boxster engine
M96/22 - 2.7l boxster engine
M96/21 - 3.2l boxster S engine
(non-RMS)
M96/76 - GT3
M96/70 - TT/GT2
Jim,
I hear you and it's not only with 996 models.
My car was pretty basic (well, now it's even more) with only weight adding options being full leather seats, 17" wheels, sunroof and hifi stereo system.
It weighted 3137 lbs (Porsche's DIN weight is 3065 lbs).
There aren't too many Porsches around that weight what factory says.
I think when they weighted 99 996 tyres were inflated with helium...
