Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

One of the reasons I was looking for local people who installed a SC is to talk to them about references for the install.
Leading evidence: 'Install sc is' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install sc is' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion
If the car is the same the RPM will be the same at the stated speed (unless they changed tire diameter).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

There is absolutely NO difference in handling or power just driving around town so no worries there.
A few questions for you - figured I would ask someone who lives up in this area.
My '01 996 C4 is a daily driver. Would the extra power render it unusable in the winter? With snow tires, I've been pretty happy with how the car handles today.
How was it from a reliability perspective? I would expect a bit of extra hand holding, but the stock system has been exceptionally reliable. Curious as to what your experiences are.
What mods are you taking about doing?
I'm pretty convinced that all the normal mods (intake, chip, headers) will net you around 20 hp total. Not bad and worth doing but it's not going to effect winter driving. Now if you're adding an SC that's a different matter.
Jim
There is absolutely NO difference in handling or power just driving around town so no worries there. Although the SC is always creating boost, none of it enters the intake (and hense no power increase) until you are at or near WOT.
I've heard nothing but good things about the SC. Buy one and enjoy.
Who does the work on your car?
Are you planning on tracking the car this summer? The first event is the end of April and includes a school for new drivers.
Using World Auto here in Eden Prairie. They mentioned one of their customers had done this to a 911, but I don't know if it was a 996 or a 993. One of the reasons I was looking for local people who installed a SC is to talk to them about references for the install.
I'm thinking about it... I doubt I will have all my ducks in a row by Spring, but looking at next year.
Boost is bypassed when engine is in vacuum mode, so any off vacuum will route boost to intake at any rpm. There is some performance improvement off boost, of course because of more air to the engine, but nothing that negatively effects the car's handling.
I thought I knew every Porsche shop in town but that's a new one. If you plan on doing something as significant as a SC I would go to a more established shop. We are lucky enough to have a several. Near EP you have Johnson Autosport and Courtney Truck Service (don't let the name fool you). For the SC I would make the trip across town to AutoEdge. I know they have done at least one on a 996. Probably more. Johnsons, Courtneys and Autoedge are all very experienced Porsche race shops.
I hope to run into sometime down the road. If you can't get to the track this spring think about coming up for the club race the first weekend in August. It's a lot of fun. You might also want to check out the Concurs in June.
Jim
do you guys notice a less in mp gallon? gas is going up again.... wtf... it's not even summer yet........ i think we are being screwed big time... (sorry for the rant).....
Most car engines put out a certain amount of power proportional to the amount you depress the gas pedal.
All my life, I have never understood why people would ask/think a car is too powerful to handle. It's up to you how powerful a car is.
Go here and you will see the HP graph SC vs Baseline. There is some HP improvement at low speeds but not that much. It looks like you need to be over 90MPH to really start to feel it.

Funny way to do show the HP curve itorque! HP is related to RPM not to speed. You've more HP at 40mph in 1st gear than at 60mph in 6th gear; guess they show the development in one specific gear, e.g. 4th
I agree but this came right off of their web page specifications its the only reference I have seen so far. If the car is the same the RPM will be the same at the stated speed (unless they changed tire diameter). So the comparison is still valid for comparison.
