Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I know people have voiced their opinions regarding ride quality on different tires. My Pirelli tires are just about at the end of their life, and I've begun to look for new tires. I wasn't too happy with the ride quality that I have received from my Pirelli's (very loud..too many rattles). From what I've heard, the Contis, Michelin, and Yokos all provide better rides than those of the Pirelli. I don't track my car much, and the roads in Chicago make for quite an uncomfortable ride. Thanks! 2000 C4 18" Sport Design Wheels Fronts: Pirelli 225/40 ZR18 Backs : Pirelli 265/35 ZR18

POST 2Original post

Before you do anything, you need to understand that any given tire becomes noisy as it wears. As such, no matter what new tire you get, it will immediately be quieter. Having said that, here's a list of the latest Porsche installed 18" tires and the way they are labeled by the factory. I think you can make your own judgment as to which one may be quieter and more comfortable. - Bridgestone S-02A / Sports - Continental Sport Contact 2 / Sports - Michelin Pilot Sport / Sports - Pirelli P-Zero Rosso / Sports - Dunlop SP Sport 9090 / All-around - Yokohama AVS Sport / All-around I would guess that "all-around" is less noisy and more comfortable than sports.

POST 3Original post

I have the same issue with my car which is on Assymetrico's and the noise on concrete and thumps from expansion joints at times drive me nuts. I asked a guy who writes for an English car magazine what he runs on his C2 and he just switched from Pilot Sports to Rosso's which he thinks are the best. I've also been told that the SportContact2's are a good all round tire. All I know is that it's unlikely I will be putting on aother set of Assymetrico's when these are worn...

POST 4Original post

I have P-Zero Rosso Assymetrico's and love them. They are good on dry or wet pavement and on the road or track. Yes, they get noisy when they wear out, but if you lower the top, and open your windows you won't hear them anymore. BTW sentipede, I hope that's a typo and you have 295s in the rear!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nope, I'm almost positive that I have P-Zero Assymetrico 265/35 ZR18s in the back of my 2000 C4 coupe. Is this bad?

POST 6Original post

why do you guys think they offer a Bose stereo upgrade?????

POST 7Original post

Great posts and i agree with KWC4S turn up the stereo.....most tires are gtreat new but as wear/tear occurs they get louder/rougher ride thanks

POST 8Original post

Aside from noise issue, which is the best tyre? I have a C4 on 18"- and live in a wet climate.

POST 10Original post

Tire noise really depends upon the road surface upon which you are driving upon. My P Zeros sometimes really Sing

POST 11Original post

I am pretty fond of the Kelly Navigator Gold tires. Better get a set of track tires though.

POST 12Original post

Viken For me best = fabulous handling wet and dry+ looking cool. (Don't really care much about noise, ride or wear. Spizz

POST 14Original post

Thanks Viken. Will follow your advice....as ever.

POST 16Original post

Which Michelins? There are three current versions used by Porsche. - Pilor Sport: They suck in the dry but are great in the rain - Pilot Sport Rib: They are great in the dry and not so good in the rain - Pilot Sport 2 or PS2*: They are awesome in the dry and likely to be below average in the rain * PS2: Tires mounted on the new GT3

POST 17Original post

Pilot Sport NO--Standard on the GT2 Pilot Sport N1--Standard on the 996 Pilot Sport N2--Standard on the GT3 Now can you be more specific?

POST 18Original post

Pilot Sport NO--Standard on the GT2 ( Pilot Sport ) Pilot Sport N1--Standard on the 996 ( Pilot Sport Rib ) Pilot Sport N2--Standard on the GT3 ( Pilot Sport PS2 )

POST 19Original post

Viken, I never thought I would say this , but I have to disagree with you. Based upon my experience the NO is a great tire in the dry, I haven't tried it in the wet. You have to try really hard to lose a GT2 with them in the dry. By way of comparison, a tire which never impressed me was the Pirelli P Zero on the TT, IMO they sucked, big time.

POST 20Original post

Umm... maybe you should try harder? Let me guess... they were too noisy?

POST 21Original post

Nope! They were lousy in the dry. I'm too busy listening to the engine to hear the tire noise.

POST 22Original post

I believe Viken's comment should be consumed with relative tire development in mind..... The N0 tire seemed excellent when it first became available. It was Michelin's latest development at that time. Now the N2 is available. The technology and development in this tire is literally generations advanced compared to the N0 tire. The N2 tire is highly superior to the N0 tire in the dry. This is as per Michelin development engineers, and professional drivers who have compared the N0 and N2 back to back. Although the GT3 is a phenomenal vehicle, this tire difference in part explains why the GT2 is relatively close to the GT3 in lap times despite significantly more torque, hp, and wider track. So, the N0 is a great tire, but the N2 is better. It is all relative.

POST 23Original post

The Pirellis tend to be a bit squirmy in dry braking, and frankly the brand seems more prone than average to sidewall blowouts, even in the realm of low-profile performance tires. Anyway, the loudest possible tire has to be the Goodrich T/A kkd. I practically tore them off the car I hated that so much after about 4000 miles. Some interaction between the large size of the tread blocks and the resonant frequency of the '99 chassis I would guess--they howled and thrummed--might not be exactly the same since the chassis is stiffer now.
