Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The check engine light came on for the second time this month. A few weeks ago I took the car in and was told the oil cap was loose which caused the light to come on. I did not challenge them on this but I had not touched the oil cap in a long time. The car is going in on Monday to see why the light came on the second time. Could I have a problem worse than a loose oil cap, is this the same symptom for something much worse. Can the computer even tell if the oil cap is loose or not, I know it can for the gas cap. The car is a 2000 C2 with 22,300 miles.still under warranty until Oct. -Matthew

POST 2Original post

You can get a check engine light due to the oil cap due to an air leak. On a Boxster you can even get it if the dip stick is not pushed all the way in as it is sealed with an O-ring. Jeff

POST 3Original post

My check light has come on two time in the last couple of weeks. It turned out to be a real issue (not a gas cap problem). My air mask meter was faulty. At first, they tried to just clean it. That helped but the light came back on after a week. So, it was replaced.
