The clutch was not in bad shape but with over 120K miles on the original clutch I went ahead and had the dealer replace the whole clutch shebang.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2002 C2 with 58K on original Clutch- I'm assuming i just need a new clutch but thought i'd post this anyways! Noticed yesterday the clutch was a bit sticky- Then this morning when warming up the car, i noticed everytime i push the clutch in i hear a ticking noise- I did a little bit of driving, then the ticking when engaging the clutch became a whine + ticking-(THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I PUSH IN THE CLUTCH) otherwise the car is driving fine and shifting fine, not feeling slippage- Now obviously i'm not driving the car anymore.. Hoping its just the clutch which i knew sooner or later i'd need to do + chance to do the IMS-AOS & all that other good stuff! Hope it isn't another issue..ticking + whine seems a bit strange, thought the clutch would simply slip bad when needing to be replaced! Thanks

ClickClickBoom has it right: Throwout bearing (although I think Porsche refers to it as a release bearing). No matter what it is called, though it is suspect #1. Likely the clutch is fine otherwise, but of course to replace the bearing the clutch hardware will be exposed and at that time you and your mechanic can decide what to replace. Sincerely, Macster.

In some ways you're lucky. Years ago, before I bought my first Porsche, I got into my '96 Mustang GT and started the engine and what proved to be the clutch throwout bearing emitted a horrible screech everytime I depressed the clutch. The car had been just fine when I drove the car earlier in the day. In a bit of a panic I took off for the nearest Ford dealer and managed to get there ok but I left a trail of people with their hands clapped over their ears in my car's wake. The clutch was not in bad shape but with over 120K miles on the original clutch I went ahead and had the dealer replace the whole clutch shebang. Sincerely, Macster.
