Suggestion

Well, you probably know what you do with a 944 engine when the oil cooler seals fail and the same thing happens: disassemble the engine, clean everything and replace the bearings.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A friend bought a 3.4L on ebay and is in the process of swapping out his 3.2L. The shop dropped the oil pan and the picture below tells the story. It looks like oil/coolant have been mixing. leakdown and a compression test showed no problem all readings were great. We have no idea how long the engine had been running in this condition but there was no sludge at all in the coolant inlet. (like someone cleaned it before putting it on ebay.. ) is this just a paperweight now?

POST 2Original post

Well, you probably know what you do with a 944 engine when the oil cooler seals fail and the same thing happens: disassemble the engine, clean everything and replace the bearings.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That did happen to my 944 engine! rod bearings were replaced and that sucker was cleaned out well. I am not sure if the shop that has the engine has ever opened up one of these blocks. I think they have just done entire engine swaps.

POST 4Original post

Judd I'm depressed... thats my engine guys... its a 02 3.6... its out of a burner so best bet the oil got there because of something (could be a lot of things) melting and letting the coolant into the engine... problem is that there is also a little oil in the coolant... and myself and everyone I can get a hold of today have no idea how this could be possible with perfect leak down and compression numbers... TIA

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 5327195

Failed oil cooler or seals can do that, right?

POST 6Original post

Very easily could be a short duration driven engine with infrequent oil changes or leaky oil cooler. Pressurise the crankcase and watch for air in the coolant.

POST 7Original post

exact same thing on my 98 996...cracked cylinder head..new engine!!!!!

POST 8Original post

It depends like someone says on allot of things excess heat can bring about moisture there and if it sat along time. Does it smell like antifreeze? If not then just clean up change filter and let her rip.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 5333227

I have a 3.2 originally out of the car with one of those... this engine has perfect compression and leak down numbers so we can knock out the cracked cylinder...
