Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Why do Porsche carbon fiber interior trim parts weigh more than the standard parts? The whole reason to use CF is high strength with low weight. However, when you just take the stock part and lay CF over the top of it you end up with a heavier part..... ...not lighter. At least it looks nice. Rant over.

POST 2Original post

It's how they are produced. They simply lay them up like Fiberglass. Lot's of resin and simply letting it cure. It's not really the true structural CF produce techniques. These methods require an autoclave and special vacuum bags for each part. The technology involved can be very $$. PS - I worked at Boeing for 5 years and got to play with a bunch of high tech CF materials. Unreal technology. The automotive CF glamour has cheapened to true intent of the material. I feel what you are saying though. It's a shame the aftermarket bunch out there have ruined the intent. C.

That's what bums me out. It looks good, but it represents function after form in my mind.

POST 5Original post

Agreed. With that said, I'd love that CF center console from Ben's car. C.

If you take it out and mail it to me you'll be saving the environment and feel better about yourself Ben......

POST 7Original post

I'm the punk? We got two of the biggest punks responding to me right here. LLLLOLOLOLLLLLO but wouldn't you guys say that the cf application in say.. the cgt is quite amazing stuff where cf tech is clearly delivering real world performance/functional results?

I have the CF radio/ac cluster and stick shift in my car. I must admit the CF center console looks pretty cool.

i'm a stickler for a cool interior and it's been heard more than once people's complaints about the 996 interior. well, this is where i as a fresh 1 year 911 owner really appreciates all the individual options porsche offers for the ride. my interior dolled up like it is makes it feel way more special than the pretty quality e46 m3 and the honda s2000. i'd say it makes it feel as special if not more so than even the audi S cars which are vaunted (i don't really get it) for their awesome quality interiors. one area where no other car can touch even my beloved ferraris.... is the 911 instrument cluster. bar none the very best ever. and you guys know it's not me to stroke off on these cars as conditioned by brand/ownership bias. i have 0 complaints about the 996 interior... IF it's been hit with the optional part$ $tick. the pricing of this stuff is just insane.

Absolutely in that application or in the GT3 rear wing blade, the CF is strutural and very strong and light. If memory serves the whole monocoque in the GT is CF (very cool ). No heated seat Ben???

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 5330489

no my seats are painted backs, full power, crest in the headrest but no butt warmers. had them on my M3 (you guys getting sick of me bringing that up?), but never used it so... not really missing it. nice feature for the ladies on the passenger side, though.

POST 12Original post

The best interior I have seen on a 996 belongs to you BC, no brainier. The function of it is the look itself. I will get silver backs on day.... BTW, IMO the only thing that would improve you interior are the white dials. Please don't argue on that or my opinion of your good taste will be tainted

My 40th has two stage heaters and I have to say they came in handy a few times this year. I've had them on other cars (Saab, F-250, Audi, etc.) but never needed them until I moved to NC.

POST 15Original post

Ben, glad I took you off ignore You have hands down one of the best 996 interiors I have seen. All that carbon fiber looks awesome, I'm not a huge fan of piecemealing it, not the same impact. It even looks great with the aftermarket radio, which normally, I think, does not look right in the 996's rather austere interior. Nice job!

POST 16Original post

Unless you have a company like Fischer doing your CF parts - such as these new blades for the Audi R8, the commercial interior CF is purely for looks. Porsche don't give a wet slap about weight, or structural strength - for interiors it just has to look good.

Welcome back to the Ben Choi show. I would've probably dissed you right about now for leaving in the first place, but since I can put a face to the name, it's just not something I'm going to do as it'd be a lame move on my part. If not for this interior equipped the way it is, I seriously think I'd still be in BMW land. I'm pretty happy with the way the Alpine unit sits in the interior. Certainly not OEM, but spices things up that there's a more serious system in there and the readout is pretty handy with the iPod connection.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
