Every time I have dropped my trans this flex disk stayed on the output shaft of the trans when I disconnected the cardan shaft.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

My indie did the same thing: since the Porsche Flex disc is not available without replacing the entire driveshaft, they were able to fit a BMW 318ti automatic Trans Flex disc in place.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

just changed the mount, the vibration gone. and found another part shot....how to call this part which the arrow pointing to ?? i tried to buy it online, but don't know how to find it. thanks.

POST 2Original post

it's the flex disc for the driveshaft. aka guibo relatively cheap and easy to replace.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 8049856

thanks, thats a big help!

POST 4Original post

Tried to find in on my PET but could not. Call Jeff at Sunset, he will be able to find it.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 8050474

thanks Doug, i will call Jeff this afternoon. It is odd that this part seems is a very common part need to replace within a period of time, and i even could not find the part online

POST 6Original post

odd indeed, it's a common replacement part for MB and BMW

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i went to the porsche dealer on friday, showed them the picture, and told them i need a flex disc/guibo, they did not know what is it, ehhh......................

POST 8Original post

I think it requires a whole new driveshaft, which is why it's not listed as a separate item.

POST 9Original post

LOL The flex disk shouldn't require a whole new driveshaft... Interestingly enough, my old '67 Mercedes-Benz 250SL and my '03 BMW M3 both used the exact same flex disk...

POST 10Original post

It certainly should not take a new cardan shaft. Every time I have dropped my trans this flex disk stayed on the output shaft of the trans when I disconnected the cardan shaft. That is not to say that Porsche only sells it with a cardan shaft, there are lots of parts that they only sell as part of an assembly.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 8055586

Yes I agree it shouldn't...on my E39 BMW it was a separate part but I think on the E60 BMW it only comes as part of the shaft I think it may be the case here too...but will let the parts experts determine that

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i am also surprise that no member here had replaced this felx disc before ??

POST 13Original post

You just don't want to wait until it looks like this: It could ruin your drivetrain, to say the least.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 8055968

Is that why you sold it?

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 8056064

Yeah, she was too hairy "down there"

POST 16Original post

So...only option is to replace the whole drive shaft then?

POST 17Original post

Search around on R'list a little more. I just read a thread where someone used one from a 1984 BMW 318 automatic as a direct replacement @ $30. Maybe it was Pelican?? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-996-997-forum/ IT WAS HERE https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ft-03-c4s.html see post #8 and http://www.bmwpartsweb.com/BMW-Parts...D-E2E2217.aspx

POST 18Original post

I registered with this forum to inform that I my mechanic had installed the 318i guibo to my 996 c4 cardan shaft. The bmw's unit is 26 mm thick, about 7 mm thicker than the one fixed on the Porsche. Fortunately, the amount of free play at the cardan shaft allowed for this difference to be 'absorbed', so to speak. Bottomline is, IT FITS!! The BMW unit cost me US30 only. Good luck guys.

POST 19Original post

My indie did the same thing: since the Porsche Flex disc is not available without replacing the entire driveshaft, they were able to fit a BMW 318ti automatic Trans Flex disc in place. It was apparently slightly thicker but they were confident that it would work well and will check on it next time I'm in. So far so good x 1 month! q

POST 20Original post

Is it an easy job to change the transmission mounts?

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

pretty an easy diy job. around 1 hour.

POST 23Original post

Is it possible that using the BMW flex-disk replacement described above could somehow affect the function of the AWD system (i.e. that it wouldn't be as "grippy" or otherwise responsive?)

POST 24Original post

KOPerformance.com has the proper porsche part. The BMW part I've seen (not sure if it was from a 318) is thicker as described, but the metal eyes do not stick out as they do on the porsche part, which fit into the transmission and driveshaft.

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 8999785

I found it on their website as Part 102539005-57 - are you sure it is the exact same as the Porsche flex disk? Have you ordered it from KO yourself and can verify? Thanks!

POST 26Original post

Yep, it's even got the same part number on it as what was on my car.

So you're saying that it looks exactly like the one on the right in your picture above?
