Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Adjusting the bass on the radio did not seem to do anything, but I did not try your loud off bass+5 setting.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust bass' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'sub just seems' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust bass' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

press it and you should be able to adjust different settings like base, treble etc.

Now I like my bass, but the problem is the sub just seems to sound distorted no matter what the volume is.
Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

I would like to get it out so that I can either replace the speaker, or turn down the input of it.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have had my 02 996 for a short while. Learning alot about it as I go. the Mercedes dealer was no help on info about the car. They know less about it than my 8 month old son.
I have a sub that is built into the passengers footwell. Is this a porsche option? I have the becker 220, cd changer, and my door speakers say bose. I dont now what package this is. Now I like my bass, but the problem is the sub just seems to sound distorted no matter what the volume is. So today I tried to take it apart. The sub is in an enclosure, and the front of it is in the same carpet as what is in the car. It looks so stock that I didn't even notice it when I bought the car. To take it out, there is one torx screw all the way up towards where the passengers feet would be. Once that is out, the enclosure is loose, but I cant seem to get it all the way out. The side that is closest to the seats (right by the side of the radio) does not seem to want to come loose. It does not seem to be screwed on, but pulling at it with alot of force does not dislodge it. I am unsure how it is held on.
I would like to get it out so that I can either replace the speaker, or turn down the input of it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
John
The footwell sub is part of the Bose package on Targas and Cabs
You need to turn loud to off and the Baase to maybe +5
Going from memory here, there is a music symbol thing above the display. press it and you should be able to adjust different settings like base, treble etc.
Base is the left most adjustment and loud is towards the right.
Thanks SBD,
At least I know it was part of the bose package. Adjusting the bass on the radio did not seem to do anything, but I did not try your loud off bass+5 setting. I wil try that. I have it unplugged right now and miss the amount of sound that came out of it. Too bad it was all distortion!

There is a screw at the front as well, you need to pull the carpet back to see it... do not pull to hard on the speaker box or you will break the plastic part that is attached to the box for said screw

Yes the Bose "subwoofer" is very boomy, what do you expect, it is Bose.
But, it can be improved with two small changed. Line the inside of the plastic box with dynomat. And/or experiment with various levels of stuffing in the box, and the port.
These two things make an incredible difference. And by experimenting with amount of stuffing, you can tune the box from boomy at one end to "tight" but not a lot of output at the other end.
Dont however expect miracles. This is still a very small woofer in a small box, and it is Bose. (no highs, no lows, must be Bose)

Thanks Larry,
Does more or less stuffing make it more or less boomey? I would assume it is more stuffling = less boomey. Less air to move. What did you use for stuffing? This sounds like what I want to do. Once I find that screw to pull it off, I would like to make it less boomy than what it is. The sound is almost better right now with the sub unplugged. Almost. It is missing alot without the sub, but way too boomey with it. I need something in the middle.
Thanks,
John
John,
Yes more stuffing = less boomy. If you go to a place like
www.partsexpress.com
you will find comercial stuffing materials and dynomat. But you can experiment with almost any fabric for stuffing, just make sure it is loose. Old tee shirts work great for experimenting.
Good luck
Larry
