That's a good idea kirby, I still have'nt figured that out yet, the harnesss I used for the aerokit I didn't have provisions for the brake light.

You should be able to buy a harness from the dealer that is used for cars with the aerokit or other factory wings that incorporate a third brake light.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I think my car is all done! Finally was able to take some pictures of the new wing finally installed.
No more mods! No More Mods! Everyone repeat after me....
Rest of the pictures 'Click' Here...
Wait a second here, are those non-sport seats? Last mod, yeah right. I smell a pair of GT3 seats and a tequipment roll bar in the future for you! By the way, since you now have two third brake lights, you'll need that blank-out piece that Porsche sells for the OEM third brake light spot (you'll need to paint it too).
I can find the part number for that blank. When I had my 2002 C2 (in Seal grey in fact), I got the Carrera rear wing for it and needed the blank. Porsche wanted $182 Canadian for it so I decided not to get it until I found one on E-Bay from some one who happened upon one, brand new and had no idea what it was for. I bought it for $5.00 USD and shipping cost me $7.00 USD. I think I got ripped off on the shipping
I had to do the harness conversion as well along with the wing but that wasn't too expensive considering...
Nice pictures! Awesome color. One question though.... In your gallery of pictures, the last one on the first page....
Is that a Zyclam Effect S2-cab ??????
We actually didn't get a wiring harness. James (Akkurat Tech) just held the wing motor trigger/actuator down with a tie-strap. There is a little pin that pops up at 75mph to tell the wing to rise. He just held that pin down and so far it works great. No spoiler warning light and saved a little $.
Hard to explain...I'll take a picture of it later and post.
You should be able to buy a harness from the dealer that is used for cars with the aerokit or other factory wings that incorporate a third brake light. It's plug and play at that point and it does away with the wing position sensor. Other than that, you can always extend the brake light wires from their original spot and run them into the wing. Porsche's part number for that harness is: 996.612.070.04 and Canadian retail for it is $161.92 (about $120 USD).
^^^ Thanks again Kirby. That picture looks pretty sweet. My compliments to you, Misha and the bodyshop.
(Plus, the wing looks low enough that it should clear the convertible top mechanism. )
Man it looks really good on seal gray car.
Enjoy it Kirby
Programmatore, I made the wing to fit on a C2 , C4S coupe and cab, so the answer to your question is yes it clears with cab roof mechanism.

didn't get out too much this season but i'll be everywhere next season..starting with some performance shows in january/march..then cayuga, shanonville and maybe dunville
believe me..i wouldn't...i'm gettin in to speedorama and performance world for free because i couple of friends want my car in their booths...if i had to pay to get in....i probably wouldn't go
Be prepared to deal with things such as:
1- stolen valve caps,
2- scratches,
3- dumb questions and looks,
4- ugly girls,
5- a very long wait just to take your car out of the show,
6- more dumb questions and looks,
7- did I mention ugly girls?
My brother in law did his friend a "favour" and let his friend use his GTI in a few of these "shows" last year. It was a nightmare for him for all of the above mentioned reasons and more. I hope you have a lot of patience.
thanks for the heads up, but after running without mufflers...i'll never go back. loud and proud baby..i'll pass it on to my friend though, maybe he can use them on his MY2000
Few pictures of wing on cab, I know they are lousy because the guy took them at night but these are the only one I have of the wing on a cab. I will have better pictures next week.
Let me just clarify something my name is
Misha
and company is
996Wings
and I have absolutely no association with Mike and MAshaw.
Misha,
You're killing me dude! Damn that looks good! I have decided not to get a wing for my cab but now I am starting to rethink my decision. Can I make one more photo request -- could you please post a closeup picture of the vents in the decklid? I really like the "scoops" in the Ruf RGT rear wing (I have the Ruf RGT front bumper and side skirts) but that wing was designed for the coupe and would interfere with the convertible top. Weissach told me I could make it work by cutting about an inch off the stands but I am not sure how that would look. Your wing looks like it is just what I need (want). Thanks.
Thanks Kirby. One of the criticisms about the 996 cabriolet is the high "bulge" in the back when the top is down. It doesn't really bother me since I like the fastback rear. Anyway, I think the wing addresses the "bulge" issue. It looks good.
Does the wing include the decklid or does it fit onto the decklid?
I can't tell from the photos but I see a c4s decklid which means its wide and bevelled (like the lights).
Hmmm.......damn......you got me fumblin in me wallet again Kirb.
I guess the issue now is how much and don't forget shipping to the UK. Maybe cheaper for
me to go with Gert from here.....plus I am on a trip to Belgium in Jan for a replacement gearbox.
Hi Berney,
I was just wondering about that... with almost 2 US Dollars to the British Pound, do you find it much cheaper to buy stuff from the US? Do you have to pay VAT for stuff you order from the US through the Internet?
I wanted to take a weekend trip to London but the Pound is just kicking the Dollar's a$$! Hopefully things will be a little better by spring. Cheers!
VAT is 17.5% on imported goods from outside the EEC. But Generally stuff in the US is incredibly cheaper than in the UK but nocessarily Europe. For example, a new 997 is 70,000. That's $140,000!
Another example, I see 996's going for $35,000 on ebay and that's only 17,500 and that is very cheap indeed. But the 17.5% import VAT is not the end of it. There's landing fees on large objects and shipping handling fees to boot. I am looking for a replacement gearbox for my cab. I can get one in the UK from Porsche new for 7,600.....$14,000. With good-will they will let me have it for 3,300.....$6,600. But add VAT to that and fitting and it all starts to mount up. The best deal I have found is to drive to Belgium to Porsche's Getrag specialist rebuilder/fitter. They are charging only 2000 for a replacement including fitting, taxes etc. That's still $4000 but it's a real good deal on this side of the pond.
On the other side of the coin, I work for Sun microsystems and I travel over to Palo Alto roughly 6-8 times a year. I will be there in Jan/Feb. While there I do all my shopping.......and take advantage of your devalued dollar. If I hand carry stuff back I can get away with taxes. SOmwhow think United Airlines would be a bit pissed if I turned up with a tranny
