It is in perfect condition and I have no use for it on my 2004 996 because Porsche changed the casting of the engine bottom to protect the once-protruding bolts.

I have a Porsche protection plate that was used on a previous car (1999 996 C2).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

They fixed the problem for the 3.6 engine by changing the casting so the bolts didn't stick out (down actually) past the casting of the bottom of the engine.
Happy holidays to all. I have a Porsche protection plate that was used on a previous car (1999 996 C2). It is in perfect condition and I have no use for it on my 2004 996 because Porsche changed the casting of the engine bottom to protect the once-protruding bolts. If anyone wants this, email me at

and you can have it for free ($220 Canadian value) as long as I don't have to ship it and you truly need it (not just because it's free). Sorry to you Rennlisters south of our border but it's a pain in the *** to ship things over the border, especially this time of year. It would be helpful if the lucky recepient of this fine high-quality piece of treasure lives in the Toronto area and is willing to pick it up so I don't have to ship it at all.
Thanks,
I've got the first dib and yes I can pick it up from TO.
So the 3.4L and 3.6L protection plates are different? Or does the 3.6L do not need protection plate?
Thanks!
Porsche only made one type of protection plate. Sometime in 2000 or 2001, Porsche realized that they had made some of the bolt areas in the 3.4 engine vulnerable to getting hit. They fixed the problem for the 3.6 engine by changing the casting so the bolts didn't stick out (down actually) past the casting of the bottom of the engine. That said, there are plenty of guys who still use this plate for their 3.6 engines. I don;t feel the need for it on my 2004 40 Jahre.
Thanks for the quick reply. I think this is the part you are referring to. Since I have a 3.6L, I think I'll pass on this and let someone who really needs it take it.

Why don't you put it on eBay? I bet you'll get some money for it.
Yes, that is the piece. I don't want to put it on E-Bay because I figure that one of our fellow Rennlisters could use it and it's the Holiday season. As it stands, it's collecting dust in my garage so if someone else can use it, they're welcome to it...
Alon, I am interested in it but I am in Vancouver. I will ask my Toronto contacts to see if they would be willing to help me by picking it up. I have a 99 C2 so I believe this will work.

Kilrgt, consider it a done deal. I could always use a coffee. Where do you live/work? By the way, I didn't realize that you're Andrew's customer, Paul T. I saw your car at Pfaff last night. The techs were taking turns doing donuts in the parking lot with it
hey alon man, where were u last year when i bottomed out on some speedbump around the bridal path
if the people in line before me havn't claimed it id like to put it to good use.
I'll get in line after Dead-Eye if it is still available. (I'm at King/Yonge and will buy you a coffee, too). Hell, for the engine plate, I'd make it a STARBUCKS latte!
