Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone else experience wind noise coming from the side-mirror areas ? It comes on around 50 mph and gets very noticable around 70 mph. It looks like all of the seals are ok. Anyone know anything about this?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The windows both seat fine - I am planning on putting tape around the mirrors to try and isolate the problem area. It just seems weird that it would be coming from BOTH sides....

POST 5Original post

I get this from the passenger side but not the drivers side....I just ASSumed it was normal.

POST 6Original post

jwedow, Is your car brand new? When my '03 C4S was originally delievered (now have a 997), I had the same noise coming from the passenger window. Feel the upper window seal on the driver's side (where there is no noise)--as you get closer to the mirror area or the part where the window first touches the upper seal when you put it up, pay close attention to how the seal feels. Then, do the same on the passenger side. It should feel minimally different because it's missing a small rubber part that apparently just gets stuck on at the factory (do they forget sometimes?). Basically, the small rubber part sticks on at the first contact point between the window and the upper part of the door seal. At the time, the dealer just pulled the little rubber piece off of another car. That will fix your problem. Hope that helps!

POST 7Original post

this is a common problem with the 996. the windows need to be reseated. the dealer charges 250 per side to fix it. my car was under warranty when it happened..... TWICE. dumb idiots at HBL didn't fix it right the first time and still charged me a deductible on my extended warranty the second time to fix it again...

POST 8Original post

i hear it as well.. I made sure the windows were up tight and sealed. I would feel around to see if theres a leak but nothing.. The wind sound is pretty annoying when the radio is down low.. So is this a warranty problem? Should I just take it in and have them re-seat the windows? thanks in advance.

POST 9Original post

Here is a quick fix for ya.... roll down your window fully.... now your sitting in the drivers seat... use your left hand and squeeze the little triangle area where the power mirror control is with your thumb and index finger... you will see that their is play there.... squeeze it a 3-4 times and roll up your window and go for a drive... that did the trick for me... sometimes that loose triangle piece causes wind buffeting @70 mph like you say...

POST 10Original post

My 99 had the same problem with wind noise. I had a body shop readjust the Door adjustments worked for 1 year now it's starting again.
