the car was in the shop for a month getting the third engine installed (replacing the one where the cylinder lining fell out of the sleeve, due to a faulty engine from porsche), and then i had to wait another month as when driving it home after replacing that engine, the dealer that installed the engine didn't connect the tranny properly, which blew up the tranny on the freeway, so that took another month to get it from germany...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

..well i finally got the new transmission installed after having it fail on me on the freeway while driving home from the porsche dealer after having my third engine installed... after not having the car for two months... finally excited to get it back, after signing the $8,500 bill, i hop in and drive a few hundred feet off the porsche dealer lot... and get to a red light.. go into first gear, and it pops right back to neutral... try again.. back to neutral... finally get it into first, second, etc..... and onto the freeway... get off the freeway and happens two more times, before i get home... do the porsche gods just hate me or what... i'm assuming I will now need yet another replacement tranny? anyone care to elaborate on what could be causing this on a brand new replacement tranny? ..or even better, anyone know the closest cliff near seattle?

POST 2Original post

Dude, I think you're either the biggest BS'er in the wold or you have THE WORST LUCK with p-cars. Assuming the latter is the case, you have to get rid of that lemon, don't spend another yankee dollar on it! I don't think it's anything to to with Porsche at all, just one bad , abused car that you had the misfortune to get involved with, now dump that POS!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

now that everything in the car is brand new and covered under warranty for the next 2 years, i'm not getting rid of it... I won't have to pay another cent for anything that goes wrong with it, as i have a 2 year $0 deductible extended warranty, and every major part that's been replaced is warrantied by porsche for 2 years... in terms of the replacement tranny if it's not working... it's all covered, as was the previous one.. so no money is coming out of my pocket there... but i'm asking what does this mean with the tranny when it pops out of gear like that? is the whole tranny bad? my previous tranny just got thrashed on the freeway, it wasn't this situation... in terms of, if you don't believe me, ask fellow rennlister roberga.. as he indicated.. he spoke with the service advisor at barrier porsche and confirmed everything i've said is 100% true... he iis fully aware that the car was in the shop having the tranny replaced as the service manager told him about it... i am not making any of this up... I just wanted my car back sigh...

POST 4Original post

Wish I had the time to see your car in person. I can't imagine after all this you want to keep fixing it up. It's not worth it. WHo did the itranny work? Is it a Porsche dealership? Regards. Mike

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yes the third engine was replaced at a porsche dealership, along with the second tranny at a porsche dealership... (soon to be third tranny it appears) well i've already had $47,000 in repairs into it in 1,100 miles, 260 days in the shop in 10 months... and if this third tranny is bad.. that's $56,000 in repairs in 1,105 miles... i'm covered for the next 2 years for any repairs... and have $15,000 in exterior modifications.. so selling it... can't say i want to do that just yet.. as long as i'm not paying for anything else... luckily i have three other cars to drive.. still none the less...one can say, i'm not exactly thrilled with the "porsche experience" thusfar to say the least... i'm not gonna bitch about it anymore.. it's just upsetting.. that's all.. to finally get it back after two months and then have to bring it back to the shop... for exactly what it was in the shop for, for a month, and another month in the shop earlier after one of the replacement engines blew... 150 miles earlier, having the first engine blow.. etc.. kind of a let down as I was really looking forward to it, as i really do love driving the car... just haven't had much of a chance to do so.. :I in terms of car being abused.. that's really an unknown statement.. the service history indicates, the previous owner brought the car in for all necessary maintenance, the car was 100% stock with no appearance of any modification, racing or anything... it just happened to be in the shop 40+ times in 50,000 miles before I bought it... yes, it's a lemon.. i'm assuming the previous owner went through what I went through, although he was under warranty.. are there lemon laws that apply to older cars in circumstances like this? As in, any chance of porsche buying it back, paying for my repairs, and all the work i've done to it and money i've invested into it with the assistance of a lawyer? Or am I pretty much in bed with it...? atleast i don't have to pay for any further repairs... in terms of all the money i've spent.. if i knew the luck i'd have, i would have sold the car long ago.. i didn't think a car could possibly have this many problems... after checking out 100% perfectly through a dealer mechanic inspection ppi tests, and so on... they can't find anything wrong with the car, everytime it's checked out... if any advice i can give to others.. get a warranty, it'll help you sleep at night... atleast for me, now that i'm not paying $10,000 every month to maintain it, it isn't that bad.. just a hassle... and honestly, i am a bit concerned about my safety as well.. i don't know what will happen next... ..i'm still just shaking my head at it all... i just can't understand how a car can have all these problems over and over again with brand new parts... even after being checked out by a dealer as 100% perfect... porsche or non porsche....who knows... well anyway, gotta get back to work.. take care all.

POST 6Original post

Darn with all that money spent you coulda gotten a GT3. I feel for you. I woulda sold the car after1st engine replacement. Regards. Mike

POST 7Original post

Bob, Go to your front door, there's two men in white coats to see you.

POST 8Original post

sorry to hear that. i have heard that numerous 996 have tranny issues. they pop out of gear when you let off the throttle. but you are truly unfortunate.

POST 9Original post

I've watched your posts and have not commented much. Frankly, it's hard to believe... If I were you, I'd find a good lawyer and file suit against PCNA, the Dealer who did the inspection, and the dealer who has done the work. Assuming your facts, this is totally ridiculous... I suspect the dealer who did the inspection has some fault here. PCNA is going to say their stuff works, leaving your installing dealer to deal with the mess. Frankly, I assume there's where a lions share of the fault lies. I have had my local dealer put a new transmission in my car, it was perfect. 6K miles later, no problems. Everything I have them do is done correctly (sometimes it takes two trips). I think your dealer must be incompetent... Good luck. Roy

POST 10Original post

ask them why they didn't catch that on the post-install test drive.

POST 11Original post

Don't ever go to vegas......Or get on an airplane....Or buy a lottery ticket.... SELL THE FREAKING CAR!!!!!!!!!!! You must be crazy to put up with this crap even if it was covered for 10 YEARS you are a fool for keeping it!!!!!!!!!

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

..well i've worked with two different dealers.. one from oregon and one from washington.. and they are not incompetant by any means.. very helpful and knowledgable.. mistakes happen.. in terms of going after porsche north america, being a businessman, i've been involved in many lawsuits with large corporations.. the stress isn't worth it.. i'm so busy with my life, i don't want, nor have time to deal with anymore, or i'll explode... anyone that's been through court disputes with a multi billion dollar corporations can relate these statements.. they'll throw so much paperwork at me, i'll have to quit working, just to take up a full time job opening the mail and answering discovery... i guess i'll just bring it back to the dealer and have them replace the tranny again.... not really a big deal, as long as they are paying for it.. hopefully it won't take a month this time though... it's nice to have other old reliable guys in the car stable and i suppose i'll keep driving them and try to remain as calm as I can this time... not bashing porsche or anyone.. just unbelievable the luck i've had with this car... .the car has been checked out by multiple repair faculties, not just one.. they can't find a thing wrong with it.. very odd to say the least... well atleast i don't have an rms leak yet? (trying to be optimistic <g>) but then again my replacement engine does only have a few miles on it...

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

oh and in terms of being crazy... well yes i've been called that before... but i prefer the term stubborn.. i don't give up until i win <g>

POST 14Original post

Remind me not to let you near my car if you're ever in the vacinity. I knew someone who had the luck you have with cars,,,,he has been institutionalized for the past 8 years. Seems he had a compultion to diliberately trash his cars. I kid you not! This guy would diliberately shift from 4th to 1st at high rpm and just slip his foot off the clutch until the tranny got fried. You might want to have yourself checked out by a professional.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

keep in mind i've owned 20 vehicles in the past.. never blown an engine, never blown a tranny, never had a single problem with any of my other vehicles ever owned... my supra twin turbo had an intercooler replaced.. but that was about $1000.. probably the most expensive repair in my life thusfar... then came satan on wheels, dressed up in white... probably the devils car and he painted it white to fool me into buying it me thinks in terms of being checked out by a professional.. i checked the yellow page under porsche psychiatrists, porsche suicide hotline, etc.. and there was no category for any of them.. so i suppose i'll have to continue being my unstable self <g>

POST 16Original post

Man, you're not "stubborn". This is beyond stubborn. This is even beyond stupid, beyond insane. You have to be a devout masochist to do what you're doing. You know the car you bought is a piece of crap lemon, you've been told a multitude of times to cut your loses, yet you keep banging your head against the wall and then complain when you get a headache. What are you looking for? Sympathy? Help? You've gone beyond that. You're beginning to be like the mother who keeps giving poison to her child then rushes the child to the hospital expecting to get sympathy for getting such a sickly child. I've been giving you the benefit of the doubt, but I'm with the others here. You come near my car or anything that belongs to me, and I'll beat your head to a pulp. No more headaches for you after that.

POST 17Original post

You guys shouldn't be so rough with Bob. He's had the worse luck of any Porsche owner EVER! The dealership should do something for him, but they won't. I know it is difficult to fathom and I have never known of any Porsche to give this kind of trouble, but anyone in a service industry of any kind for long enough, has seen those customers where everything that could go wrong does go wrong. If it weren't true, there would be no Murphy's law. Bob's real dilemma is, Porsche is not a service industry. It is a passion.

POST 18Original post

Bob; Did you buy your car used, what MY? If you did where did you buy and what kind of due diligence did you perform?

POST 19Original post

Bob your frightening me...... On Jan 6 I am driving over to Belgium to have my tranny replaced. I found a place over there that is "the" getrag G96 rebuilder for Porsche AG. But I am driving it 450 miles and I am praying that it will be right once replaced. I hate to think of driving all the way back and its another duffer. I guess I should stay another day and kick it around a bit. WHy am I driving all the way to Belgium? Because I have tried and tried to get one here in the UK for less than $7000! Even a used one would cost me $6000. But I can get a fully refurbished one with 2 yrs warranty in Belgium for half the price.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

it's a 99 cab, bought it with 49k miles about a year ago, i'm at 50k miles now... it's an auction car, got every part checked out before i bought it, carfaxed it, etc.. no problems found... drove it home.. and that's when the fun began... (i suppose if one finds house of a 1000 corpses by rob zombie a funny movie, it's fun..) scouser, well if it has a 2 year warranty, then i suppose it's not that bad... all i know is my car is covered with the absolute max extended warranty possible from the most reputable and long standing warranty company i could find with a $0 deductible with full 100% towing coverage.. no expense spared.... expensive? yes very for a warranty.... but for me.. worth it.. every dime... it's easy to tell me to sell this car... so what do i do when the person asks me if i've had any problems? palting, would you like me to sell this car to your relatives or your friends? I have ethics, and the fact is, you criticize me, yet you want me to sell it, so some poor unfortunate guy that has always dreamed of having a porsche, will have his dreams crushed along with his pocket book... that's even if I can sell it.. disclosure law requires me to indicate everything that's went wrong with the car when asked, which of course everyone will ask... would you buy a car from a guy that tells you he's had repair bills of $56,000 in 1,100 miles of owning their car? answer that one.. and sorry, I can't lie about this either, it's all in the porsche computer system... and guess what if i do... i can smell larry lawyer in his jcpenny suit knocking at my door a week later when the gearbox falls out from under the new owner on the freeway and causes him to swerve out of control into a center divider... causing him a skull fracture... the fact is i'm in bed with this german creation... i've accepted that... all i asked from it.. is 2,000 to 3,000 miles a year of pleasurable driving.. is that to much to ask dear porsche gods? after that may you die a fiery death off a cliff.... (aren't i sentimental) regardless, i called my dealer to confirm.. i'm gonna do some more test driving tonight... and if it does it again, i'll just bring it in and have the tranny replaced.. again... no cost to me, covered under the 2yr porsche warranty... not a big deal like i said... just upsetting, that's all... but in a way, i'm actually glad to finally have costed porsche money... the money for the transmission will now be coming out of the pocket of "porsche" and the money for the fourth tranny, fifth tranny, 10th engine, and so on... :> maybe after awhile, and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars fixing my car, they might offer to buy it back from me and pay me for all i've put into it.. hey, it could happen :> and with my luck.. when I say 10th engine, as sarcastic as that sounds, it doesn't even seem out of the realm of reason with my vehicle.. all I can say is.. porsche 2 year extended warranty on all $45,000+ in parts and labor they've recently replaced.. time to take back some of that hard earned money first comes the transmission.. let's see what they'll have to pay for next... and what happens next... i suppose we'll just have to see... i suppose my car could act in a soap... it would fit in well with all those dysfunctional beautiful characters with a sh*tload of problems... maybe one of the actors could drive it and die in it when it catches on fire.. or a rod comes out of the engine through the hood, in through the windshield and beheads one of the soap stars..

POST 21Original post

Bob porsche gets my vote for poster of the year. I doubt there has ever been a new member create so many replies and views as bobby......................... Maybe you should check into an ejection seat so when your car finally goes up in flames you can shoot yourself out of the sunroof! Hope 05 is better for you in Porscheland

POST 22Original post

hey bob, do u have the carbon fiber shifter, ebrake or center consol trim? wanna trade for some aluminium pieces? or will my instruments start to short out as i inherit ur bad luck? (seriously tho, if u have any factory cf pieces, let me know) with all the problems ur car's been having it sounds like porsche has just stopped trying and is just giving you leftover warentee return parts so u can use them untill they blow up (hey, its cheaper then hauling them to the dump )

POST 23Original post

Bob, your shifter linkages may just need to be adjusted. Why would the dealer not test drive the car after installing the new tranny? They should have caught this...

POST 24Original post

Bob, If you hold onto that POS, you deserve everything that IS going to happen to it in the future. Sell it as is on ebay, somebody will buy it. Feel free (maybe that's the wrong term) to join the board since you use it so much. Good luck

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for the insight, i'll ask them about the linkage.. they said they test drove it and it was fine... we'll see, haven't had a chance to try driving it again tonight... so c4suregon, do you believe it is ethically right for me to sell the vehicle on ebay to some unsuspecting buyer as a perfectly working porsche 996? I don't know your ethics, but I would never sleep at night knowing I did, not to mention law requires full disclosure if someone asks.. and who isn't going to ask "so what's the history on it?" if i'm not honest, i'll be drowning in debt from a lawsuit... not to mention potential criminal implications if someone gets injured or hurt from my actions... do you propose i trade it in or sell it "as is" and lose another $10,000? no thank you, i'm covered now, and won't have to pay anything else... everytime it breaks down, porsche or my extenteded warranty company is paying for it... (although preferabbly out of the pockets of porsche), out of their greedy little pockets, thank you very much...

POST 26Original post

No Bob, sell it as is means just that. Tell them everything, they can carfax the rest. That's where you'll get your biggest audience(on ebay). So why don't you fork up the 20$ and join? Later

POST 27Original post

Back to the question. Not sure if the shifter linkages would affect it. But my 04 Targa tranny started popping out of 2nd gear shortly after I got the car new. They sad it was a bad synchro and put a new tranny in, no problems after that. I heard that around 2002-2003 there were a bad batch of 996 trannys made because a subcontractor supplied bad synchros, though that was never officially confirmed. Other than that, I have never had a tranny problem with any of my Porsches and I understand these transmissions typically are very strong and long lasting. For that matter, I have never had any real problems with any of my Porsches. Bob, your story is utterly incredible, and I know you get pestered because it is almost unbelievable, but you have my sympathy!

POST 28Original post

I'm puzzeled why you still keep the beast. If half of what you have gone thru were to have happened to me, I'd roll that puppy off of a cliff or give it to the Salvation Army. Surgeon gave you good advice...not another penny should go into that car. Jim

POST 29Original post

Bob, I must say you are the dumbest rich guy. I just dont understand your logic what so ever. If you have money and are such an expert on cars, why in the world would you buy a P car from a ford Dealership are you trying to save some money?? And instead of selling that POS when you realize its a lemon, you insist on putting more money into it and try to replace all the major components. After spending close to $50k it is still a 1999 POS and how much did you save now?!?!. Dont mean to flame you but I just think someone needs to knock some sense into you There is a difference between having money and being an absolute moron

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

keoni, as said, several times, i didn't pay for the first tranny replacement, nor will i need to pay for any additional repairs... i have everything completely warrantied.. i'm not putting another penny into the vehicle... that's what warranties are for, and one can be rest assured i will be using my warranty often... that has a $0 deductible.. porsche will receive no more money from me.. end of story. also I never said I was a "rich guy" (or an expert on cars either) I simply bought the vehicle as a fourth car, convertible for the summer for 2-3k miles a year of driving.. I didn't see the sense in buying a new model, when I wouldn't even be driving it except on rare weekends... so I didn't anticipate such problems with a 5 year old car that checked out perfectly with 49k miles.. by a car rated as the most reliable sports car out there.. would you? the whole ford dealership issue is ridiculous.. it's an auction car, and one of their guys working there bought it on put it on their lot... it's an auction car, and i got a great deal on it... the ford issue is irrelevant... many people on this board have purchased their car from used lots, where the owners bought their cars from auctions, or from individuals without any previous history... are they dumb as well? would it have been any better if the car was sitting on the owners exotic car lot next to a ferrari modena bought at auction? geez... you guys seem to think I knew this was going to happen to my car... if i knew that, do you really think I would have bought it in the first place? after owning over 20 cars, i could never conceivably imagine a car to have this many problems.. i thought it HAD to stop... I just can't understand how a vehicle can have so many problems, especially when checked out 100% without any problems... once again, there will be no more of my money put into this car.. the repair figure I indicated is simply the cost incurred already.. i've put about $37,000 of my money into the car including the warranty in maintenance in a thousand miles..(which is mostly the cost for the 2 engine replants) the other $20k isn't my money.. warranty/insurance money...

POST 31Original post

Bob, I had the tranny replaced on my (former) 99 cab (under warranty) due to whining noises in first gear. When it returned, I found it a little bit more difficult to shift (kind of notchy) and it did pop out of gear a couple of time initially. I'd give it a little chance to break in before panicking over it. Also, and this may sound simplistic, make sure you are pushing the clutch all the way to the floor when you are putting it in gear as the 996 gearbox seems to have a tendency to pop out of gear if you don't. I've had numerous 911s and never had one pop out of gear the way the 996 did. It did it before the gearbox was replaced, as well. I adjusted to it eventually, and remember, you've only driven the car a little since you've owned it ;-) The car I had was a great one but after the gearbox problem and the first RMS leak, I sold it. It wasn't a lemon, as yours appears to be, but didn't seem to have the same bulletproof feel that the older 911s I've owned had, so I wound up in another 993. I was very happy that I purchased the 996 from a Porsche dealer and had the certified warranty, though. Vic 95 C4 cab

POST 32Original post

Bob, Honestly mate I feel terribly sorry for the pain you have gone thru with your 996. I too have had pain with mine. I know exactly how you feel and despite all this it still goes on. You have my full support and sympathy and I fully agree with everything you have said. I can fully understand your frustration and you wanting to vent off here. It's not right and one day I feel certain (and hope) that PAG will be bitten by the hand that feeds them. But......mate...., your postings are becoming too repetitive. You're just baiting arguments with posters using the same comments in multiple postings and it isn't doing neither you or the Forum any good. You would gain more respect and do yourself more justice if you just ignored the negative postings and bite your tongue with them. If your going to respond, a one-or-two line response is fine but we don't need a repetitive running lengthy comment telling the same story over and over again. We all know by now about all your engine/gearbox and other problems and your warranty (envy). So let's not hear of them again and again and again forver more. I truly hope you don't take this offensively. Happy Xmas to you and I truly wish that the new year brings you a lot more luck than this one did with your Porker. Cheers,

POST 33Original post

I wonder, how many guys on this board bought their cars on used car lots or at auction without proper PPI as Bob has elluded to. I'll bet not many.

POST 34Original post

As far as mistakes goes, everyone makes mistakes but how many mistakes must be made until you learn from it?? You are foolish to even deal with this on your mind everyday. You should take that thing back to the dealership you got it worked on and trade it in for another one, pay the difference and have the warranty transfer to the new car if allowed. Like 996FLT6 said, shoulda sold that thing after the first engine replacement. Forgot who said this but, "Only a$$holes dont learn from their mistakes."---pardon my french.

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

vove, would you like to pay for the $15,000 in modifications i originally added to the car when I first bought it which have absolutely no trade-in value? so if i do that again, another $15,000... which basically, makes another $30,000 lost... doesn't seem too logical imho, since i'm now in a situation where i won't be paying for any further repairs again...

POST 36Original post

for the finance types - and not making light of your situation bob - welcome to a case of the sunk cost fallacy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunk_cost

POST 37Original post

When I said cut your loses, Bob, I meant "cut your loses". I don't think you hear or read too well. Maybe that's why you're in the pickle you're in. You keep trying to fix something that should be pretty obvious by now to anyone with any grain of sense is unfixable. Sell the car for what it is, a piece of junk lemon to anyone who wants the challenge of owning such a car. Consider yourself lucky if anyone offers ANY amount of money, as it will save your sorry butt from any further costs. Or leave it in the garage as a testimonial to what not to do in life, to teach anyone willing to listen. And willing to learn. One can only hope that includes you, Bob. I want to stop looking at his posts, but I can't seem to stop. It's like watching a man try chew his arm off because his fingers are stuck in a door. You try to tell him to just open the door and release the fingers, and when he won't, you just watch in morbid fascination to see how far he will actually be able to chew through his arm.

POST 38Original post

if ur actually never gonna hafta spend a dime (no parts no labour no nothing) till ur warenty runs out in a couple o years...u mite as well drive the snot out of it till then. Sell it now, you prolly won't get ****, sell it later, still won't get **** so might as well. Maybe part it out after two years or whenever ur warenty's start to expire.

POST 41Original post

If it ever runs again, I would be parking that thing everywhere with the window open, doors unlocked and key in ignition. Oops. I am now curious what the next thread will be? We've had: Motor, trans, fires, next maybe brake failure coming down a hill! Anyway, Palting, I am guessing the whole arm.

POST 42Original post

leave it in a shady part of town so someone jacks it...insurence'll buy u a shiney new 996...win win..

POST 44 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i'm not venting anymore, no need for that.. i'm over it... if anything, i find it funny to see all these things go wrong over and over again... just smiling at it all, now that i'm "fully 100% warrantied"... i'm just sure there are many curious of my 996 saga... just keeping you all informed... and for those that don't care or don't want to hear... remember you don't have to read these posts.. oh and btw... well there's more good news.. I was driving tonight and the check engine light came on.. maybe another new engine for me out of porsche's pocket book i'm not mad or anything, and like I said i'm keeping the car... there's nothing like having a 100% warrantied 996 with a $0 deductible.. as said before, maybe after 11 or so engines, porsche will offer to buy the car back and pay all my repair bills to avoid having to pay $100ks of thousands a year to fix the car :> i learned a good lesson from it all... it costs me a few dollars in the end... but live and learn... in terms of reading those posts, even though you don't want to, i completely agree... hey, atleast they are entertaining to see the saga unfold? otherwise you wouldn't read them now, would ya? i actually have no more anger in it anymore, now that i'm not paying for anything.. I haven't invested a cent in this car in 2 months (but then again it's been in the shop for 2 months) i'll just see how much can go wrong, that i don't have to pay for... kind of like my little pet project.. who knows, it may pay off, and I may end up having a nice case with a lawyer and get reimbursed for the $33,000 I put into it if I keep it up? it could happen... i'll just have to drop it off at the local porsche dealer, and let them deal with it.. i have three other reliable cars to drive... i'm kind of curious to see how high i can rack up the repair costs for porsche.... they didn't help me before.. so now it's their turn around to pay... what comes around goes around.. i have 2 years on this engine warrantied.. so we'll see how many engines i can rack up.. aiming for the record right now.. bets anyone? sometimes in life, when it throws you a curve ball, you just have to live, learn and laugh at it all.. and that's what i've learned to do with it all... after all, it's just a car.. not gonna stress about it, as long as i'm not paying $15,000 here, and $10,000 there, every hundred miles.... with $43,000 in repair costs already in 1,100 miles, I figure that comes out to $430,000 a year in repairs if I drive the car 10,000 miles a year... porsche north america might want to cut their losses on this one and give me a nice check... who knows we'll see what happens... of course, if things get really bad, i could always send all these service documents to porsche north america in a letter and tell them i'm going to send a copy of my service history to all automobile magazines unless they buy my car back and pay for all my modifications and repairs.. that's another option as well... either way, i'm not gonna let porsche win on this one.. they screwed me over with their faulty lemon... and i'm gonna keep the car and see what happens... oh and for those that don't believe all this could possibly happen, next time i visit the porsche dealer, i'm gonna ask for a service history print out, and i'll scan it in for you all to see... i know it sounds ridiculously unbelievable, even though a fellow rennlister backed me up... but i'm sure a few would like to see the real life documents themselves... well.. on that note, i'm off for some christmas shopping...

POST 45Original post

So basically you spent $43,000 and how ever much to buy that POS and you get to enjoy for how many miles?!?!?! 1,100 MILES....I be pissed!! Why spend all that money for it to sit in the shop? Sell it and get another pre-owned or whatever from a Porsche dealer. Dont be cheap this time.

POST 46 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I actually paid $39,000, but that's irrelevant... do you honestly think i'll be buying another porsche after what i've been through and the way they have treated me? not if my life depended on it.. it's fun to drive the car, I cannot disagree, but I will not be investing another cent into the purchase of another p-car again until they shape up their act... in more ways than one.. i'm not a porsche loyalist, simply a car enthusiast... and i've never had such bad customer service and experiences with a vehicle in my life, after owning most every marque out there... but i'll keep the car for two more years until all my warranties are expired, then it's outta here... prolly get a nice used sl55 come then... test drove one of those beauties and love them.... but still a little too pricey right now for a toy... we'll see how they are priced in a couple years... i like my three other cars, and it's wintertime anyways in seattle... a convertible porsche isn't actually even too much fun to drive right now anyways in this part of the world.. we'll see how things are come summer...

POST 47Original post

Bob I wouldn't be so sure that you will be covered under warranty for the next 2 years. If Porsche customer service is as poor as you believe, all it will take to deny warranty service on your 996 is for Porsche to claim owner abuse. Then it will be up to you to hire a lawyer and litigate the issue.

POST 48 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

they indicated a 2 year warranty with the newest engine, and that is what they must stick to. I don't abuse any of my cars, track them, or anything... simple daily normal driving.. an internal engine failuire such as a rod coming out of it's block (what happened before) and a cylinder coming out of it's sleeving on the other engine (what happened before) cannot be engine abuse... pure and simple, porsche faulty engineering... all my previous engines are simply internal engine probs that could not have been caused by owner abuse... i also have an extended 3rd party warranty as well as a backup... we'll see what the newest check engine light means when i bring it into the shop.. fourth engine maybe? not to mention i've never heard of porsche denying a warranty claim for an engine replacement from anyone under a certified porsche warranty under normal driving conditions.. has this ever happened to anyone?

POST 49Original post

15000$ in mods?? what did you do to that thing?? with a quote like that I feel that you are pulling everyone's leg now. So go ahead, tell me your so call mods. or better yet, post your car so I can see the mods for myself.

POST 50Original post

^ prolly X51 package...or some kind of interior trim package (isn't carbon like 9 grand and wood like 12?)

POST 51Original post

Bob, I hope you get a stick of dynamite in your stocking and a new lighter........Go ahead and put it in the tailpipe and runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POST 52 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

vove, wheels & tires, twin turbo body kit with full repaint and installation, interior upgrades, wing, exhaust, tax, shipping, etc.. it all adds up pretty quickly with porsche as we all know... apparently the check engine light was the mass air sensor going bad... nothing big.. just another part to be replaced, thanks to my extended warranty

POST 53Original post

Man this post is getting funnier and funnier. Palting- next post you'll have is you'll be morbidly fascinated about chewing off his arm knowing the fact all you need is to open the door. Bob-I think everone knows here that netime you put money into car-your not going to get it back. What's worse car will further depreciate. So what happens after 2 years? Buy another engine when it blows and get another 2 year warranty? It's gotta stop at some point-right : )?. Regards. Mike

POST 54 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i don't expect to get my money back from my modifications, that's why i'm gonna try and enjoy the car for 2 years, to get some value out of the damn porsche from hell.. then i'll sell it.. right now, after all i've spent, and $15k in mods having to sell the car with only 1,000 miles on it? no thank you, that'll just **** me off... i'll try my best to enjoy it and hope that one day.. it'll stop breaking down... i can't logically see how a car can fail over and over and over again... but then again.. oj was found not guilty... after 2 years, it's sold.... until then, not another cent of mine is going in the car.. mass air sensor just failed as well.. extended warranty company will be picking up the tab.. another day, another problem... have to just laugh at it all.. can't do anything else.. as long as i don't have to pick up the tab, you won't see me complaining... i figure it'll last me 2 to 3k miles a year for 2 nice summers in seattle, with my 2 year engine, tranny, etc.. porsche warranty and my 2 year extended 3rd party warranty with it's $0 deductible.. then it's outta here.. where, i don't know, just out of my sight.. then i'll pick up a '03 sl55 when the price gets more reasonable in '07

POST 55Original post

Bob, How much have you spent on the car? How much did you spend on mods? Just wondering...I know you've posted it before, I just can't seem to find it....

POST 56 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

$33,000 out of pocket for repairs (the majority of this cost is from the two engine transplants) $15,000 in modifications $3,000 for the best 2 year $0 deductible extended warranty i could find $9,000 from the insurance company of the dealer for the tranny.. (and now another $650 for the mas air flow sensor to be replaced) total = $60,000+ total miles driven since purchased at 49k miles with a perfect mechanical inspection done: 1,120

POST 57Original post

So you spent $60,000+ in repairs and upgrades for an auction car you picked up for $39,000? That's $100 grand for a car you hope to drive for about 2,000 miles a year?

POST 58 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i simply answered his question as he asked.. but yes.. that is correct... "If i knew then what i know now..." this would never have happened... live and learn..

POST 59Original post

Alright Bob! Enough with the complaints! Take the bus from now on. And only a fool would pay $650 for a MAF when you can get the OEM for less than $300.

POST 60Original post

OK. As far as I can tell, hes gone through skin, into the fat beneath the skin, and just getting into the muscle. I think he actually likes the taste of his own arm. He's actually chewing and ruminating on the taste of his own flesh, prgering to enjoy the taste rather than getting out of his predicament.

POST 61Original post

Bob, wait 'till you get down to the marrow, it tastes sweet.

POST 62 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm not complaining, if you had read Phil McGrath asked how much i've spent and I answered his question.. Also i'm not paying the $650 for the MAF, the extended warranty company is. I am paying $0.. that's how much the dealer is charging... what they charge I don't care, as long as I don't have to contribute to the pockets of porsche execs again... before you criticize, you may want to read the previous posts.

POST 64Original post

No fight. I think we, including Bob, are just having some fun at Bobs expense. It's morbid, it's at a Bob's expense, but he brought it on himself.

POST 65Original post

So let me get this right...you sepnt 100k on your car and it's still breaking apart. I bet you could have had a TT for that and one that was in great nick....plus you could be posting away in the TT forum instead of here. Double bonus. I feel sorry for you bob. Both for the horrible experience you've had with your car and also for what it's done to your mind. If your feeling lucky, I have a gorgious cab here with a knackered gearbox and a free wheeling RMS. Want to give it another try?

POST 66Original post

I want a picture of this car, so I know never to buy it in the future......

POST 67Original post

Bob posted pics on another thread. If I were you I would stay away from white '99 cabs with a Turbo-look bumper. https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...6&postcount=64

POST 68Original post

Thanks, I am sure this has been covered but its interesting that someone would go cheapo on a second hand used Porsche (no warranty, nothing) and then go nuts on the higher priced aftermarket gear. I think he should part it out, and start over....

POST 69Original post

It all goes back to buying a POS auction car from a non- porsche used/abused car lot. Sorry to make lite Bob, but you brought this on yourself. I guess you had plenty of down time for mods at least.

POST 70Original post

One thing I have to agree with you bob, that it is a 'porsche from hell'. You could of gotten a Turbo or a GT3 and forget about the RMS issue for the money that you're dumping into that car at the moment. Rule of thumb for future references, never buy a porsche at a ford dealership. Its like buying oranges at a farm that grows only apples. You cant blaim porsche for your mistake or let alone let this experience kill your passion for porsches. YOu wouldn't be putting porsche down if you bought the right one in the first place, trust me.

POST 71 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

as said before, i have a warranty, there is no more money being put into the car.. yes another part needs replacement, but i'm not paying for it, (see previous posts about my extended warranty) in terms of having fun at my expense... you see how you feel after having been through what i have... i really don't need your crap insults... first of all, all the major expenses (both engine replacements) are due to internal faults within the engines themselves, as verified by a porsche dealer.. (rod coming out of the block while driving on the first one, and cylinder sleeve coming out of the lining on the second one) there was nothing I, or any previous driver could have done or not done for this to have happened... they happened, because they were faulty produced engines in the first place.. and second of all, the third major expense (transmission failuire) was the fault of the porsche dealer for not installing the replacement engine properly... third of all, all 20 of my vehicles i have purchased in the past, were purchased from used car lots, or from auctions... and the most expensive repair i've ever had was a $1,000 intercooler replacement for my supra twin turbo, 7 years back... there is nothing wrong with buying a car from a used car lot... it's the same as buying from a private party... you don't know the history of the previous owner and you don't have a warranty... while many of you purchased new, calling me a moron for buying from a used car lot, is one of the most ridiciulous insane things i've ever heard.. of all the cars you have owned, who hasn't bought one of their cars from a used car lot? if a porsche is so reliable, why should i have to buy a porsche at $20,000 more than I paid through a "porsche certified dealer", than a mercedes, bmw, audi, or other german car in the same price range that i've bought at used car lots, put on 30,000 miles+ and never had a single problem with? some of your rational makes no sense at all... what did porsche owners do before the CPO dealership program? does that make everyone with an older porsche a moron for buying it used from a non porsche CPO? .. a year ago, with all the options my car had.. the localporsche dealerships were charging $55-$60k for a similar car as mine ($95k msrp sticker) I picked it up for $39,000 as a fourth vehicle that would only be driven a few thousand miles a year... what is so wrong in not wanting to pay $20,000 more for the exact same car on a different lot? some of you guys must have been picked on in high school and now that you've made something of your life, have reversed yourselves into being the bully from all the years of traumea.. i've tried not make any of my messages personal to anyone, unlike some people i know... and really they don't affect me, but it's just upsetting, that I purchased this car to enjoy it and have fun with it, only to run into the situation I have... sh*t happens, i'm dealing with it... first it was calling me a lying jackass troll for making up my story about the engines.. then once confirmed i wasn't lying... you had to find something else to criticize me about.... you really don't affect me, but it shames me to see some of the immaturity and lack of tact that some of you have for a fellow porsche owner that has run into more than a few road blocks simply trying to enjoy his automobile... i wouldn't have bought a porsche, if i didn't believe they were amazing vehicles, and i didn't expect what happened on a 5 year old, 50k mile car... it just didn't seem probable... anyways, i lived and learned... and now i live with it and have my warranty... ..criticizing a fellow porsche owner for just trying to enjoy the automobile that you have as well... that he purchased and poured a fortune in at his bad luck and expense is just immature and in poor taste.. some of you need to grow up... and i'm not going to name names... you know who you are... 'nuff said on that... on that note, take care all... attached pic as requested

Actually, I do like your nose and aerokit for what it's worth.

POST 73Original post

i think your avatar says it all, cry baby..dont wet your own bed then cry about it and blame it on the bed. I have to give it to you though_good response bob, i think you're getting better at it with every post. Gluck though chiefy with your porsche from hell.

POST 74 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

actually the avatar was chosen about screaming at my porsche experience.... i think it describes what i've been through quite nicely, don't you think?

POST 75Original post

Bob I don't understand why you paid for two engine replacements. I'm surprised you even had to pay for one. If there was an internal defect with the first engine I'm surprised Porsche didn't replace it. True it was out of warranty (time wise) but there are many stories of Porsche covering even out of warranty engines if there was a serious internal fault with them. You should have been able to fight for this. Even if not so you pay and replace one engine but if that engine failed due to another internal defect in under 1000 why in the hell would you pay for another engine? There is no legal way that engine manufacturer or the installing shop could weasel their way out of responsibility. Porsche rebuilt engines have warranties and work performed at a Porsche dealer is warrantied. Even if Porsche & the Porsche dealer are not voluntarily warrantying their work there is a whole slew of laws that would apply to this. For example even the general concept of "implied warranty of merchantability" would probably apply here. In a nutshell when a business offers something for sale even if they attempt to weasel their way out of responsbility with "as is" or "no warranty disclaimers" the product is still assumed to be fit for its normally intended use unless otherwise expressly stated (i.e. "This engine is bad" or "This car does not run"). I would say the normally use for an engine is to run it, in a car, and for alot more than 1,000 miles. Why the hell did you pay for the second engine? You simply allowed yourself to be screwed on that one!

POST 76Original post

Don't take this guy seriously. There is something suspect with his story. Porsche probably was able to identify that the damage was done deliberately, or at best, because of extreme neglegance and abuse.

POST 77 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

sigh.... i shouldn't even bother responding to this one... if you had read the previous posts, you would have seen that fellow rennlister roberga backed up everything i have said by talking with the service advisor at barrier porsche about the status of my vehicle and the engines, tranny, etc... and it has absolutely nothing to do with any negligence or abuse of any kind... all internal faults that could not have been prevented by me, or the previous owner. ..everytime i explain the situation, someone simply comes back at me saying how great the reliability on a porsche is, and it's my fault because i bought it from a used car lot... not gonna waste my energy anymore... think what you want... just dont' come crying to me when your engine needs replacement...

POST 78Original post

I'm a bit perplexed at some ignorance here. The car is no longer a lemon. Does everyone understand that once the engine and trans have been replaced, the "car" in its original form, is only there in its shell. Any problems with the brakes? My point here is that the engines are from PORSCHE - why would two engines go? That is PORSCHE sucking as a manufacturer, and even more so - the guy that put those engines together with tools in the factory- not the "car". Even more so, I suspect that the transmissions aren't even MADE by porsche. Borg Warner? ZF? I'm not sure. Thirdly, we have the issue that dealerships, from Porsche, in general, are totally ueseless, and inept on most accounts. These people are probably to blame for most of these problems. Why harp on bob? What has he done? He's paid bills to a institution, that by proof of Skip in Boulder's 997 problems, hasn't been "in the office" since about 1998.

POST 79Original post

Are those the best pictures you have? It looks like those were taken of some car you saw while walking down the street some night? I find all this somewhat funny but mostly just hard to believe, that said I can't help but keep watching... kind of like fear factor .. can it get any worse. Chris

POST 80Original post

Excuse me for stating the bleedin' obvious, but f I found myself in your situation Bob, I'd spend less time on computer forums, and a bit more time driving the car. Maybe then you'd get more perceived value for your $100k. Also, whi did you have to pay for the 2nd engine??

POST 81 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

the car was in the shop for a month getting the third engine installed (replacing the one where the cylinder lining fell out of the sleeve, due to a faulty engine from porsche), and then i had to wait another month as when driving it home after replacing that engine, the dealer that installed the engine didn't connect the tranny properly, which blew up the tranny on the freeway, so that took another month to get it from germany... it's kind of hard to drive a car when the tranny from your car is sitting in pieces 300 feet from your car... not to mention it's not ideal weather in seattle right now for driving a convertible porsche regardless... and yes those pictures are all i have... i haven't had the car in my possession to even take any pictures, it's been in the shop for 260 days since i got it this year... anymore criticizing anyone? for heavens sake...

POST 82Original post

Do you have a picture of the transaxle sitting in pieces 300 feet from your car?

POST 83 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

no, it was sitting behind a large purple easter bunny at the porsche dealership that wouldn't let me see it... and of course i never got a third engine replaced either... it's all a big lie.. here's a fake invoice i made up in photoshop about the tranny indicating my car being in the shop for over a month right after having a new engine replaced by a porsche dealer.. if you want i can make another fake invoice for the 3rd replacement engine installed if that will make you all happy... after all, i have nothing better to do... ps: i spent the past 6 hours making it look real.. i hope it looks believable to all your satisfaction... sigh..

POST 84Original post

I don't doubt it. I've seen that purple bunny.

POST 85 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

that's the one... as you can all see, it's bigger than the tranmission, so unfortunately i wasn't able to take a picture of it..

POST 86Original post

I have no reason to doubt Bob. I reported in the long RMS thread that my Boxster owner friend Jean had 4 seal replacements and 2 intermediate seal replacements. Afterwards I asked Jean for the mileage each time the RMS was replaced and I missed the 5th seal. The seal was replaced at 30k, 38k, 49k, 50k, and 57k miles. I think this ties Berny. Then when his car was out of warranty and the latest replacement seal started to leak Porsche oked a rebuilt engine, which had a vibration problem and metal in the oil filter. 2 more rebuilts were put in with the same vibration problem. I work 10 minutes away from my local dealer so I go by at lunch time to bs with the people I know, including the 2 mechanics that worked on Jeans car. I would tease them about who was rebuilding the engines. I would also take pictures of Jean's car from time to time and email them to him because he lives and works far away, and he wanted me to get the straight info on what was going on because I have known the mechanics for years. I even took a picture of engine #4 when it was still in a box. Porsche then oked a 4th replacement engine. This time a new one but Porsche only had a tip engine in stock and Jean has a manual transmission. One of the mechanics, Peter, rewired it for a manual transmission car and it was put in and so far it works fine. Jean was without his car for 3 months due to the engine replacements and waiting for Porsche to deliver another engine. Who would believe this story? I had a Sony notebook computer that stopped working 7 times - no power. 3 times it was fixed while under warranty. Then when the warranty expired I paid 4 times. When it died the 7th time I gave up and bought another computer. I disputed 2 of the charges with my credit card company but they did nothing. If I had known the computer was going to continue to have problems after I paid the first time I would have thrown it away. I kept throwing money at the computer because I though Sony would finally fixed it for good. Foolish me. Sounds like what Bob went through except he has a car.
