US cars never were as light as those pre-production Euro cars they originally tested due to standard passive restraints, bumper, side door beam and glass restrictions.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Our local PCA had a tech session on corner balancing at a nice local shop(Racewerks Va Beach). I was able to get the corner and total weights. Although the Corner Weight Distribution is excellent which resulted in very good cross weight, I'm not happy with the total weight
With the following items temporarily removed:
-rear seats including the back rests
-few plastic pieces/liners from the trunk
-Bass module(of the Bose High Performance Audio System)
lighter after market wheels, 5/8 fuel and me(140lbs) in the driver's seat the total is still
3409
lbs.
maybe its all the rain droplets on the car... you think?
Spare tire and tools were in the trunk during this weighing.
I find that very hard to believe. That means you have a ~2900# car without petrol in the tank and stock rubber?
The 3150 weight sounds about right for a stock C2.
My 2004 GT3 was recently weighed on a portable scale at the track.
With no driver, 5/8 tank of fuel, GT3 seats, roll bar, and everything else stock it was 3,186.
I figure the lighter seats cancel out the roll bar so it's probably pretty close to what a totally stock 996 GT3 would be.
EDIT: Forgot, my helmet and gloves were in the car too.
Is this car a tip? Tips are quite a bit heavier. You might want to also check your own weight. It just seems very heavy given the information you provided. In fact, it is much closer to what you normally see for a stock GT3 with driver (The GT3's 4WD chassis is heavier than the Carreras by about 70 lbs).
There is a big misconception about the early cars being so much lighter. US cars never were as light as those pre-production Euro cars they originally tested due to standard passive restraints, bumper, side door beam and glass restrictions. Base curb weights also don't take into account the weight of fluids or options, especially the weight of those very heavy factory optional solid turbo-look wheels. Car and Driver's loaded 99' US production long-term test car with power seats and 18" turbo look wheels weighed 3149 lbs without driver (don't know the amount of fuel). So much for the theory or a 2900 lbs stock 996.
I weighed my 02' weighed 3160 with a 1/2 tank with Bose, power seats, 18" Carrera wheels and no aero when it was stock on a balanced cattle scale. With the Fabspeed mufflers, 18" CCW Classic race wheels with MPSCs, no rear seat, Rollbar and Euro GT3 seats it was 3086 with similar fuel in the tank on the corner weight scales at the track. Getting a better performance exhaust (not the PSE since they are actually heavier than the stock exhaust and make no additional power) like a Fabspeed or Tubi will drop 30+ lbs. You can drop a lot more swapping out those heavy factory power seats. I've heard numbers of 65-70 lbs from swapping seats. I can tell you the stock power seats weigh at least twice the weight of each GT3 seat from when I swapped mine. The rollbar weight is 27 lbs (actual shipping weight) which basically is a wash for the weight reduction from removing the rear seats.
I've been arguing that with PCA club racing for a while. They claim the car weighs 2910. I weighed mine stock (no sunroof, no rear wipe, GT3 seats and aero kit) and it was almost 3400# !!!! With the car gutted I still weigh 2980!
NO
Still
140lbs
I've corner balanced my previous 993 a couple of times so I'm familiar with the process.
I do have the:
-heavier(compared to the Euro GT3 seats) power Sports Seats
-OEM AERO II Kit. (Both rear lid/spoiler) and the side fairings.
-aftermarket Orciari bumper lip extension.(no GT3 anti-sway bars, control arms, etc)
-heavier OEM PSE( I just love the sound though./cant pass on that) WITHOUT the electronics(-5lbs)
But have the CCW 20lbs(fronts) & 22(rears), with MPS Rib.
I'd like to think that the scales were off. I'm going to a single vehicle weighing scale next week. I'll let everyone know. Thanks for all the insights.
Had to resurrect, weighed mine last night.
3220

Hey!
FWIW, the GT2 with the same recaro euro seats, full tank of gas, and me at 190 was 3360.
PAG was pretty hard core. Right under the seats all you see is the metal floorboard with thin carpet cutout surrounding it.
I think the new GT2 seats are ideal, because while the recaro seats are nice, you effectively lose all the storage space behind you. Whereas these new style CF seats are like the ones by Ferrari that you can fold and yet is thin one piece (well two pieces) frame with little padding.
that's about right. theadvertised dry numbers were around 3100lbs. with you, fluids and options, i can believe the 3409 weight.
my car weighed 3000 with supercharger, roll bar and 3/4tank fuel. the earlier cars are lighter
I weighed my 2002 C2 with bunched leather seats, no PSM, 18" wheels, no snazzy bodywork, full tools and carpets coupe when I first got it on a commercial scale (legal for trade) at work. I got 3080 lbs with no driver and a half a tank of gas. I'm happy with that. My buddy weighed his similarly equippded 2003 coupe at the same time and (surprise surprise) got the same number. For what it's worth I jumped on the same scale myself and it pegged me good at 100 kg.
With my 220# carcass in the seat of that car, that makes 3300 lbs all in.
Is it possible that the corner weight scales are out by 25 each? At first I thought yeah ok, but then again it would be as likely (maybe more so) that one or two of the scales were out by 100 or 50 lbs each. That would kinda makes the corner weighing exercise a waste of time eh ?
In the business of measurement we always make at least two, and preferably three independent measurements before we start making important decisions. FWIW.
Just before we started my suspension upgrade last week, my EVOMS Supercharged '99 996 with electric leather seats (sans back seats) and minus the spare tire stuff the corner weights were as follows (please note this is with my 216 lb. fat *** in the drivers seat):
LF: 690#
LR: 1077#
RF: 574#
RR: 1055#
Total: 3396# also had approx. 3/4 tank of fuel
We will be corner balancing after the suspension upgrades are completed and I will try to remember to post new weights to let you know if we added or subtracted weight with the suspension. I've been busy, so it might take me a while to post again. NTYGC.
3000lbs. '99C2, the single solitary installed option in the car is the performance oriented driver. Or was it the "appearance group" driver option? I forget. In any event, the performance/appearance driver was not in the car when weighed.
1/3rd tank gas.
spare and tools removed.
02 Carerra: Interesting info, thx.
They look blingy eh? kinda on the side view. But looking straight at them, they dont. Anyway, they're forged aluminum(not chromed). Made by CCW, T-10 model.
