If you are going to sell it I would just replace the air box and leave the other items on as they will not spook a PPI done by a BMW expert.

I agree with TT, in fact I think racing parts added would actually make me not look at a car, because it may have seen heavy track use, I would prefer to buy a street driven car from a PO.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I am going to be listing my C4S for sale shortly and wondered what others thought about pulling the aftermarket parts from the car. I would consider doing this for a couple of reasons: 1. Maximize the dollar potential and 2. How do others considering the car feel about aftermarket parts. The three items I have put on the car are RSS plenum, RSS 200 cell cats and the Fabspeed Cold Air Intake. Just wondering what others would do. Thanks for the input. I am getting into a 2003 X50 car.
I would pull all three. You have to decide if it's worth the effort. You probably won't get a much different price for the car with or without the mods. There are plenty of current owners that would buy them from you separately.

BTW - I think
Chads996
is in the market for a RSS plenum. You might want to PM him. If he has not already purchased one, my guess that he will buy it.
My experience with modded cars is that buyers usually won't pay you what the mod is worth and parting out is a way to turn parts into cash. However, somebody has to take off the mod and then reinstall the OEM parts, so it depends on the part.
If you do I let me know, I might take the fabspeed off your hands and leave that orange cap thing alone, not sure what the big differnece would be. The sound is all I am after (for now) without changing mufflers.
vprklr, The market for non turbo 996s is awful. I have seen two pretty nice C4S cars sell on Ebay for under 50K. Now every dreamer with decent credit thinks there is an endless supply of them. I am sure your window sticker was North of 90k like mine is. If you are going to sell it I would just replace the air box and leave the other items on as they will not spook a PPI done by a BMW expert. Hopefully an enthusiast will find your car and appreciate what you have done. You are pretty close to Canada and I think it is great that so many Canadiens drive their Porsches all year long. They convinced me to buy snow tires and go for it. BTW, what color is your car?
Good Luck
Steve
I would say yes, go back to stock and offer the aftermarket pieces to the potential buyer. Why? Well when I sold cars in NJ, I want to reassure the buyer that it will pass NJ emmisions and stock is the way to go. They could always add the aftermarket pieces after inspection.
The aftermarket stuff by and large add little to the value of the car, usually decreases value compared to factory original. You would be lucky to see pennies on the dollar for the aftermarket stuff. Remove it and sell seperately, stock is the way to go on resale. The only exception would be something like a Ruf conversion, but a pile of aftermarket parts is not a selling point IMO. Good luck on the sale.

I'd pull the intake and plenum off the car. If the cats can get by emissions and visual inspection I'd leave them on since the cost to take them off may exceed the value of your other mods.
Cost to take off the cats? It's a DIY job. Even if you brought it to a local muffler shop, it shouldn't exceed the value of the other mods, intake and/or plenum!
