Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have fewer dropouts with that XM antenna location than my wife has with her GM factory installed XM in her Yukon XL roof mounted antenna.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I would prefer to not have the antenna outside the car. I was thinking on the rear deck (behind the rear seats).
Anyone mount it there and if so do you have reception issues?
Thanks
I have my antenna mounted in the rear of my Carrera, it works well. In my Boxster, I had it completely hidden and mounted in the battery compartment. This worked great and was completely covert.
I have the XM "Roadie" with the smaller antenna. I have it mounted on the front of the dash just behind the window adjacent to the radio warning blinker; wired through the same access. I also installed the HK Traffic Pro and have its antenna underneath the warning light panel. Wired them all at the same time. I have fewer dropouts with that XM antenna location than my wife has with her GM factory installed XM in her Yukon XL roof mounted antenna. Very low profile - it's under the inspection sticker.
The "Roadie" is mounted via velcro on the basically- useless -to- me CD holder unit in the center console. (I also installed the Becker/HK Porsche CD changer). I rigged a direct from battery multi cigarette lighter output from Radio Shack behind the center console on the hump to accept the FM wireless Roadie adapter, and a cell phone plug. All unseen but easily accessable when needed. There is nothing except the stock lighter in the console lighter outlet. The FM adapter sounds fine to me though audiophiles will disagree -I can't tell much difference in the sound plus if I wanted to go direct, I couldn't have the changer. Phone power line runs behind the RHS console panel, exiting at the lower right corner, going to my phone holder mounted on that removeable panel (bought one on Ebay, original undrilled).
Now - where to mount my HF amateur radio rig and 6 foot antenna!! HA HA - never happen on this car!
Thanks. I was thinking of the XM Commander with FM Modulation.
One shop was adamant about it having to be outside the car. I said no way in heck they were goign to mess with the running of it outside.
With all the commercials now I am looking forward to listening to music not commercials.
I work for Sirius so I wont get into whose better... lol... but we have the NFL
As far as antenna u can put it almost anywhere just dont cover it with metal through glass works fine but u might have trouble if u have tint with medal in it.
I have tryed the rear shelf and on the dash. the rear seemed to work a little better.
Kevin:
Group discount? hahahahaha
I do have tint with metal in it. What happens when you have low signal? Is it like a radio station with static etc?
I am looking at the XM commander because of its ease of install and slick console. But really want to have a unit I can bring in and hook in to my inside stereo as well. So I am looking at several units.
as for the tint try it there and if it doesn't work just move it around till u find the best spot. As for the single its like a dig cell phone it works or it doesn't thats the nice thing about it no static. also fm mod will not sound as good as if its hard wired. Good Luck
DONT PUT IT HERE!
I have XM in my car via an Alpine indash head unit and xm tuner module. I told the shop I wanted it on the inside of the car and dropped it off for a week while I was out of the country. They ended up putting it on the leftmost side of the dash next to the A-pillar.
Now everytime I go east or east-southeast (a pretty narrow band of about 10 degrees) I get signal dropouts. Haven't had time to take it back and have them relocate it to the center (where I wanted it all along!)
Anyway just be aware.
-Keith
When I upgraded my stereo they wanted it on the back of my cab. Not only no....but H#ll no! mounted it on the centre of the dash near the alarm light. No drop out at all (unless I am trying to listen to tunes inside my garage).
