They are both around $10k, which is a big expense, but it still is a lot less when added to cost of my car than a slightly used turbo.

I'll check with the TPC guys just to make sure, but I feel like I'm leaning to EVO.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just purchased a used '99 996 and love it. I would've gotten a turbo, X50 or GT2 if I could've afforded it. I would love to get more horses and torque and the idea of a supercharger conversion sounds very interesting. I just last year souped up my '02 Toyota Tundra with complete TRD supercharger, exhaust and headers and WOW! What a difference - 400 HP/TQ! Anyway, I've been checking out Evolution Motorsports new SC system and it looks awesome. TPC also makes one and it looks good as well. They are both around $10k, which is a big expense, but it still is a lot less when added to cost of my car than a slightly used turbo. Honestly, what do you think? Anybody heard anything about either of these two systems? Good? Bad? Before I made any decisions, I figured I'd put it out there to see what anyone else had to offer.

POST 2Original post

Stevo, there have been several threads on this topic including one from last week. Yes there are also several owners who have Evo superchargers installed. Search evo supercharger. Good luck. Thx.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, folks. I wasn't aware of the other threads - other than the one by the guy from WY with not very good numbers in the 1/4 after installing a SC. My wife and I haven't owned a Porsche since '91 - a very long vacation. Our last one was an '86 Turbo Cab (triple black) that was car-jacked in L.A. in '91. We're so excited about getting one I can hardly think of anything else!

POST 5Original post

Personally, I'd enjoy it the way it is for at least a year or two. That will give these supercharger kits a chance to prove themselves. Your 996 is plenty fast Enjoy it as is for a while...

POST 6Original post

I have kit #10 from Evo. Todd developed it and my local guys at Intersport installed it. Changes the feel of the car totally. When I hit 3k rpm's, car takes off! No problems with reliability or anything else so far (3 months). Only thing is I'll be shipping the car to Todd to fine tune the DME, accelerator needs to be slightly depressed to allow enough air when cold starting. I've also heard good things about Mike at TPC, but Todd has been great to work with, very responsive and knowledgable. I believe my system runs at a slightly lower PSI than the TPC unit, which puts less strain and wear on the engine and was another reason I went with the Evo kit. Good luck.

POST 7Original post

Just realized you're in Kona. We used to have a place at Nauru tower at Ala Moana. Couple of other Porsche guys on this bulletin board who live in HI now. Porsche club in Oahu seems pretty active, how about Big Island? Regards

POST 8Original post

"Only thing is I'll be shipping the car to Todd to fine tune the DME, accelerator needs to be slightly depressed to allow enough air when cold starting." i think you mean you'll be shipping your little ECU - not your car. i've already shipped and rec'd my ECU back to correct the cold start.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, not much of a club so it seems here on the Big Island. There is a GT2 in town, tho, as well as about 1/2-doz 996's and another 1/2-doz Boxsters. Perhaps a little get together wouldn't be bad at all. Actually, after I purchased the '99 996, I saw another "Mirage" 996 in my little town. I went friggin nutz! I was planning on being unique - oh well. It seems most of the guys with an SC have the EVO unit. I'll check with the TPC guys just to make sure, but I feel like I'm leaning to EVO. Thanks for your comments.
