Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's now been two years since buying my 2nd 911. Unlike this original photo taken right after I bought it in 2002, this car is feeling its age. The paint is well taken care of, but road debris does take its toll on black paint at the leading edge. Had to repaint the lip of a door handle that got scraped on a wall. The driver's side carpet is worn in those familiar spots. And now the 997 is out, and regardless of one's opinon of the 997, it does make this C4 of mine one generation older than it was just a few weeks ago. And for crying out loud, manufacturers are coming out with 4-door luxury sedans that can easily beat this car to 60!! As you can see from this latest picture (taken today), it's just not the same as when I first bought it. And yet, 11,500 miles in two years is a low mileage car by Texas standards. And the black paint is just gorgeous on the other 95% of the car, after all. And those worn spots in the carpet... they actually FEEL right as I get settled into position before starting her up. And oh how sweet it is to start her up (as the PSE gurgles and reverberates in my garage). Lowered to M030 with the PSS9's and tuned to 4 on all 4, this car doesn't need a better 0-60; it just needs to be driven!! Yes, I'm actually loving this car more each day. Since I'm just starting to get acquainted with it, I think I'll keep it. Whadda ya think? Thanks to all of you Rennlisters - from whom I have learned, and for helping me get the most out of this almost-brand-new car of mine! I'll be staying on the 996 forum for a while longer.

It looks even better after two years, hapy birthday J.Seven

POST 4Original post

My 2001 C4 with 51,000 miles on it felt better than my 04 C4S Cab does... because it was worn in like a baseball glove. That car just fit me perfectly and I was sad to finally let her go, she was my first Porsche and I get teary eyed when I sold her. I remembered that the 01 didn't really feel right until about 12,000 - 15,000 miles, my C4S has 8500 miles on it already so in the next couple of months I hope she's just as fun as the 01. Hang on to her for a while, and besides I don't like taken the arrows on a first generation new model. Let them work the kinks out and buy a 2006.

POST 5Original post

your car is beautiful. my problem is that i have 45k miles on my '99 C2 and am starting to wonder how much longer i'm supposed to keep it! enjoy your car

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know what you mean. I like to think that it's a combination of the glove molding to the hand, and the hand learning the glove! Probably more of the latter.

POST 7Original post

ervtx my $0.02 while a little worn your car is still stunning! everything gets old in time, perhaps most in our minds. as far as 60k sedans out 0-60'ing us....true....but would you really want one on a track or when the highway gets twisty? perhaps now, your rig is more like a well worn pair of running shoes rather than sleek gucci lofers....but which would you rather be in day to day?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just in case I was misunderstood, this statement was made tounge-in-cheek. I can tell the difference, but just barely. But yes, even if it were not in such great shape, I would still be praising its virtues over a new 997! (That was kind of wierd... quoting my own post like that!)
