I knew when I first test drove this one (mine) when I thought to myself "this one will be good for me".
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm thinking of giving my aging bones and muscles a bit of relief and switching from my RS America to a 996. I test drove a 1999 Carrera today and was impressed by its power and grip.
My question is for you 996 owners who have also owned previous generation 911's: have you bonded with your 996 as much as you did with your pre-996 911?
trying to fall in love with it, have only had her since Feb of this year. not sure if it's the color, the 996 model, the mileage, the costs, just not sure.
i do think that the 993's are prettier.
Like Ben, it took me longer than it did with my '87 Targa. Of course, that was my first Porsche, so I'm not sure the two situations are comparable. My second was also a 3.2 (1988 cab), so it was almost an extension of the first; although, come to think of it, I never really connected with that car to the same degree I did the Targa.
Over two years of ownership of my '00 996, I have grown increasingly appreciative of the car's style, reliability, performance capabilities, and looks. The 996 really is a great car. It makes a much better daily driver than earlier 911s, and its performance envelope is higher as well. I like the car more after two years of daily driving than I did in the first month I owned it. You can't ask much more than that.
I love my 996s. I also have a 964 and to be honest, I prefer driving the 996s for daily conveince. I am probably in the minroity, but I really like the 996 interior. It just feels more comfortable.
I used to dislike the 996 but it started to grow on me something like a year ago. I sold my 993 and got a 996 2-3 weeks ago.
My 993 had a LOT of charisma and I had a carnal relation to it. The 996 feels maybe a little more "common" but I always throw an extra look after parking it... And the more I drive the more I like it. It feels like this car will deliver every time
I knew when I first test drove this one (mine) when I thought to myself "this one will be good for me". I get pleasure by "working" together with the car; I had more respect for the 993 S and could never really relax at the wheel, for good and/or bad.
I think the 996 and I will become good friends and I am looking forward to our relationship.
btw guys, imo if you add coilovers (or even the factory sport suspension) and do something about the (lack of) sound in the 996 (like change the exhaust), the 993 no longer has anything in the way of feel or visceral enjoyment over the 996. and, the 996 will whip it's butt - over and over again.
I prefer my 996 over my former 993... more power, better handling, and better electronics. I believe in the theory of driving the most recent P-Car that you can afford.
I love my 03 Targa (996) coming from a 986S and 993 RS - I love the grip and response of the Targa - The 996 Is a great platform..
"What's Not to Love"
Had mine for 1100 miles. No bonding yet. I still feel like I'm borrowing the car from a friend. Hope things click soon. Added a turbo front bumper and side skirts recently, and that helped because the car is much more aggressive looking now, whicih I like. We'll see how things go over the hot summer-- she looks best with her top off.

My 03 has sport seats, PSE, Carrera 18's, and I installed pss 9's and GT3 sways. She is an extremely capable beast, on the road for her smooth and effortless speed and precision, as well as on the track at the limit. I appreciate her all the more since I picked up an EVO as my daily driver. The EVO is a remarkable package, particularly for the money but, despite what the magazines say, its no 996, not even close.
