Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I always assumed triple black was a term used for convertibles to indicate that the top was also black.
Leading evidence: 'Use convertibles' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check back and all this stuff' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

You will need to change the front headlights to suit the new bumper.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, I just joined as a paid member and have been asked for an official introduction.
So well, I'm a young 25 year old guy who bought the 996 some weeks back. Its a 1999 996, triple black, complete stock.
Mods so far (not seen in the photos):
- Clear side marker lights
- newer coolant tank
- "mckenna" plate cover replace with USC plate (go trojans!)
Mods in progress
- clear headlights (found these already)
- C4S/turbo style front bumper for the C2 (still looking for this)
- Will be experimenting with used stock mufflers from some 2003-05 car. Anyone got these ?? I have 2 offers of
free mufflers
but they are 2000 and 2002 resp.
Photopgraphs:
Attached here !!
I'm loving the car so far. It feels like a glove petting the roads ... amazing feeling when driving it. Puts a smile
on my face everytime.
Enjoy !
Sid
PS: The yellow bike (Suzuki GSX-R750) in the background is mine too. The cruiser is a friends !

You could also consider contacting Eric at
www.bumperplugs.com
He can paint the rear bumperettes to match the body and also paint the rear emblem (arctic silver...or any color you want).
He's a good guy and rennlist sponsor.
Silly question, but what's the third black in triple black? There's the exterior and interior, whats the third item? I always assumed triple black was a term used for convertibles to indicate that the top was also black.
Welcome Sid,
Whatever you do, don't go out and buy a replacement stock muffler. There are LOTS of them here from people who've done the PSE upgrade. I bet someone here will just give you one.
-Charles
Sid, better than even asking for a replacement stock muffler: get yourself an aftermarket exhaust. For a reasonable price, the GHL regulars are an awesome consideration.
Hmm ... a guy here in san diego as well as 1999Porsche told me how to modify the mufflers locally to sound more throaty - for dirt cheap !! So I'm looking for some stock mufflers for the modification. I'm told that 2002-04 is the best choice for this mod.
I've also had a guy who was ready to give me his 2000 mufflers for free, but supposedly they are 2nd choice for this mod. I think I'll post a seperate message for the 2002-04 mufflers from someone out here for cheap/free.
But I'm told I should wait for the membership tag to kick in before asking for help/parts ... so I'm hoping the mods process the membership quickly !
Dead-eye and ZX9RCAM, here you go. I've purposely reduced the image in size, to prevent .. well .. "photoshop effects". Her is pretty and I love her ! Just like the car ... sigh!
Sid
Yeah. Ole Sid has a hot GF, and a 911, but we got the trophy - Hook'em ;-)
Just kidding Sid. Welcome to this crazy place. These people on here are great, but have cost me so much money with mods. I hate them all, but am addicted now. great looking P-car.
Wow ! I check back and all this stuff on my poor little intro thread ! LOL !!! Well, I guess I must clarify !! I don't have "great hair", just short cropped spiky hair. I'm not very tall, at 5'11". Buffed but lean (gym!). I'd better stop or this will look like a shady "personal services" ad or someone will scream
But yeah - life is good
Plus I love San Diego and "real" summer is coming !! Can't wait for summer !!! (I'm from India so I'm a wimp for cold and love the heat!)
Man ... this forum is crazy too
!!
Sid
Nice car, Im 25 too. Just bought my 996 a few months ago. Is it bad to put a Turbo front bumper on a non turbo? I ask because im comming from a BMW M3 and Bimmer owners look down at non M3 owners that put M3 bumpers on their cars. I personally love the Turbo bumpers but I dont want to look like a Turbo lookalike.
Are there any front spoilers for the C2s?
Good luck on your mods, Sorry to take over your thread.
m3rty, welcom to rennlist. it isn't looked down upon to put a turbo style bumper on a C2. The 40th anniversary 996 came with a turboesque front bumper rightfrom the factory.
As for front spoilers, you have a range of styles to choose from and materials such as plastic, fiberglass and CF. PM me if you would like to discuss this further.
And where is your intro thread with pics! :RTFM:
I wouldn't think so since the C4S and the 40th anniversary models essentially have Turbo noses from the factory and they are both NA (naturally aspirated).
Good luck!
Is it possible to put a Turbo-style bumper (like on the 40th Anniv. or C4S) on a 996 pre-facelift? I have a '99 996 and am interested in a more aggressive front bumper. I prefer the style on the C4S and 40th over the AeroKit. Both the C4S and 40th have a Turbo front bumper, no side skirts, and a turbo rear bumper...right?
jchamlee: In order to put a turbo-esque bumper on a pre-facelift, you will have to do what is called on the forum a "facelift". You will need to change the front headlights to suit the new bumper. As is my recollection, you will need two 2002+ style headlights, the wiring harnesses, headlight trays, all the miscellenious clips, and of course your new bumper.
Thanks. I did a search and it looks like NR Auto (
www.nrauto.com
) makes several aftermarket choices for pre-facelift 996's, without having to change out the headlights. DeAd-Eye, that's a nice looking bumper...is that the GT2? Did it mount up directly, or did you have to do any mods?
thanks for the kind words. It is indeed a GT2 style bumper that was designed to work with the pre-facelift headlights. fitment i can't really complain about and it requires a bit of prep, like all fiberglass work but the finished product is really nice. Karlooz also has one here, he opted to paint the entire bumper silver where as i chose to paint on the black vents a la GT2. If you decide to go with this bumper, take a look at his car and it'll give you some ideas on how to paint it.
If you are interested in the bumper, PM me. Where abouts do you live?
