Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use fogs' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run jumper wire' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

However, I did run a jumper wire from the left rear for light to the right rear fog light.

I had daytime running lights (DRL) installed in my C4S when I imported it into Canada.

Sometimes running with the lights on during the day is a matter of self preservation.

Hense, now it never gets used, but I agree I see it all the time on many european cars and I know the owners have no clue what they are doing (I mean really, how often is it foggy that you need to use the fog lights).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Many 996/997 drivers I see on the road drive with their lights pulled all the way out so the rear driver's fog lamp is lit.
If you don't know what I mean, next time you're in your car, pull the light switch all the way out look at the rear of the car.
Rant over, thanks.
tough day today?
I know exactly what you mean..... I always wonder whether they are doing this on purpose and like the look, or just don't know better.
I see that as well on all the MB's, etc. and it drives me NUTS! I have learned that there are just so many people drivng their cars (and probably going throught life) on a principle in cognitive world called automaticity. They have pretty much <1% active volition and just walk around without knowing exactly what it is they are doing.
There should be a mandatory RTFM test given to ALL purchasers prior to taking delivery!
It seems everyone likes to run with their fog lights on all the time. And I agree that is annoying. Fog lights are for fog or very low visibility conditions.
Of course I do like to use the rear fog light when I have some idiot who starts to tailgate me. It tends to back them off to a safer distance. I especially like it if it induces a panic breaking on their part.
Its funny. I remember when I got my boxster in 1998, I thought it was 'ccol' to have both front and rear fog lights. So I was one of 'those' people that pulled the switch all the way out and drove around like that. I do not remember how long it was untill I realized that only the drivers side light was lit on the back, and then after actually 'reading' the manual, (and other people complaining on PPBB) it was explained why only one light goes on. Hense, now it never gets used, but I agree I see it all the time on many european cars and I know the owners have no clue what they are doing (I mean really, how often is it foggy that you need to use the fog lights).
Yup. Retarded.
Frankly, and continuing the rant...with litronics, I don't even like the look with the driving lights on. I'm still trying to find a good solution for a halogen bulb that casts a whiter light and more closely resembles the xenon headlights.
Then you can tell the people that do it all the time. Only the pass side brakelight is working because they left the rear fog on too much and it has burned out.
The rear fog light is separate from the brake light.
I use my fogs when appropriate (rain or fog). But everytime I use the rear fog light somebody always tells me I have a bulb burned out.
I never usually even turn my lights on unless I am driving at night but then I just turn it to on. I don't turn on the front or rear fog lights.
My headlights come on automatically as soon as I start the car.
Man, maybe the DOT approval people do sometimes know what theyre doing then. I often wished they hadn't screwed around in the 80's ad forbid MB from bringing the rear fog light to the US, but it looks like we really can't handle it.
You're a big man to admit it.
When I first bought my 2001 I pulled the light switch all the way out and was looking at something behind the car and I thought one of the light bulbs was out... turns out I was clueless... it also turns out that there's a connection there for another light bulb if you wanted to activated both of them.
Rob - First off, I apologize for driving with my fog lights on all of the time. I'll quite doing so immediately, now that I know it bothers you.
Just kidding, I dont drive with my fogs on.
Initially, I didn't know about the "one rear fog light" being a Euro thing. However, I did run a jumper wire from the left rear for light to the right rear fog light. Both rear fog lights work now. My rear fog lights have been on exactly 3 times. 1st time - to check if they worked OK, noticed only left side worked); 2nd time - after I did the jumper wire mod to see if they both worked; 3rd time - turned them on early one morning last fall... in the fog!
You aren't supposed to have 2 rear fogs, not in the US, not in Europe. People will think your brakes are on. I don't care if the brake lights are seperate lights, people don't know this for the most part, see 2 bright lights, and think brakes. The rear fog is supposed to be left side only. That's how people know where the outside edge of your car is.
Yeah, I know, all cars that have a rear fog have a socket on the other side (at least that I've seen). I want to say it's for cars with the steering wheel on the right, but I'm not sure
Wehn I check and found only the right side lamps goes on I thought my left bulb was out. I called the dealer to be enlightened about how rear fog lamps work ...
I use it however in hard to see conditions like when its dark+raining heavily or in fog ...
Sid
Riad, I must admit you would have busted me the other night. I had just waxed the car and turned on all the lights and drove around for a few to test the new lower drag coefficient. It was not raining or foggy.
Sometimes running with the lights on during the day is a matter of self preservation. With all the Expeditions, Excursions, Escalades and other monster SUV's on the road with drivers talking on their cell phones not paying attention to what they are doing, they don't notice that small silver/grey/white Porsche next to them. As a good friend said long ago, when you buy a Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini you will find out what the true meaning of defensive driving is!
It is one of my pet peeves as well. People who run their front fogs all the time are a brief problem. A Volvo in front of you with the rear fog going during the day is a hazard.
