Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, My Fabspeeds are backordered a week or so. Thought I'd try the pep-boys muffler bypass. Not bad. Not as obscenely loud as I thought, but sure gets the neigbors attention. Sounds pretty good, but I'm hoping that the Fabs will give it a slightly better tone. Its great above 3 or 4k, but down low its a bit droney(is that a word?). Anyway for $30.00 I though it would be fun to try. Its not as loud as this.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, its definately got a "ricer" look to it, but for one week I thought what the hell we'll see how it sounds.

POST 4Original post

Your rear looks like a girl with eraser nipples [shakes].

POST 6Original post

what is this pep boys mod? pep boys sells 996 mufflers?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, but they sell a 90 degree pipe that allows you to run right off the cats. No mufflers. Looks like hell, but sounds like a cup car. A little loud for my taste, but I can take the week to polish up my factory tips while I wait for my Fabs and still drive the car. As long as my neiborhood doesn't show up with torches and ptchforks.

POST 8Original post

so is the "pep boys" mod a good representation of what the fabspeed muffler bypass will sound like?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, I thought I'd try bypass pipes and see if they were too loud or not. I could probably live with them, but have noticed a significant drop in low RPM torque. They do sound fantastc at WOT. If I were going to keep bypass pipes, I'd go Fabspeed or some other more cosmetically pleasing solution.
