Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all. Looking for some after the fact advice. We have picked up an 02 Carrera 4s automatic with a blown engine. Another one of us has picked up an engine out of a wrecked 05. What are the major differences in sensors or anything else for that matter. Just how difficult is this going to be. Thanks in advance Glenn

POST 2Original post

If the 05 is also a 996 it should drop right in, same DME, wiring, etc. for a 2002 and 2005 996 M96.03 engine. Very few mods, if any. If the donor engine is from a 997, slightly different story. Post the serial number on the replacement engine, that will dispel any doubt. How to find your engine's serial: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php/topic/16437-anyone-know-where-the-vin-is-on-the-996-engines/page__p__82129__hl__%2Bengine+%2Bvin__fromsearch__1#entry82129%3Cbr%20/%3E

POST 3Original post

Coolant flange fittings and possibly fuel lines are the only differences you may run into. If the 05 is complete, you can swap the fittings over w/just gaskets if I remember correctly.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
