Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys, I have searched through a ton of threads, and still have a few things I am not clear on regarding my stereo install. I am trying to a put a Double DIN Kenwood Nav unit in my 2002 C2. Wondering if anyone could provide a little input with the following: 1) Do I need to remove the "horseshoe" trim to relocate the climate controls and install the new head unit? If so, does anyone have any tips on how to pull the horseshoe trim? If not, how do you pop the surround trim off the climate control to get to the fasteners? 2) Do I need a custom trim piece to go around the face of the Kenwood unit (other than the stock surround that it comes with), or can I just install it in the Double DIN opening without slop, or a big gap around the unit. 3) How do you pop the cover off the alarm led area on the dash to install the gps antenna? I am planning to stick it right in front of the alarm LED under that cover. 4) I have heard of people putting the XM antenna under the wiper cover...wow easy is it to pull the windshield wiper cover off to install the XM antenna? Any tips there? I think I have everything else covered....any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Brian

1. Yes, you need to remove the horseshoe. Just yank on it, it is held in with 4 clips. 2. You do need a trim to fill in the gap around the unit. If you just bought a DNX7100, then it will come with a universal trim. I just filed mine down to fit in the space. 3. To pop off the alarm cover, I just used a screwdriver with a towel wrapped around it. It comes out fairly easily, but the leather dash is delicate. 4. I have no idea, I didn't remove this piece and don't have XM. Hopefully someone else can chime in. Good luck. I installed a DNX7100 about a month ago...great unit. It was a pain running my iPod cable into the center storage compartment though.
