My assumption is that this non-symmetric tire wear is caused by insufficient neg camber.

Suggestion

Really expensive option, but with other benefits: JIC Cross suspension package with the monoball front shocks, $2800 to $3200, but a great package, gives you the ability to corner balance and adjust ride height.

Suggestion

You could also likely use the factory GT3 front monoball mounts but I'm uncertain if they work with the factory diameter spring for a standard 996.

Even if I don't end up using all of -2deg, at least that will allow me to experiement that far in the neg camber range.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need more neg camber in my ROW M030 '99. It's a 30% DE car and the front is maxed out at -1deg. My tires are wearing very badly on the outside, and not much on the inside. My assumption is that this non-symmetric tire wear is caused by insufficient neg camber. And before anyone asks, my air pressure isn't a contributor to this. At least I don't think that it is. I arrived at my current 29F, 34R after a lot of monitoring of sidewall abrasion. Tires are Yoko AD07. So if I need more neg camber, what's the smartest way to get it? What's the least cost way to get it? My objective is to be able to get 2deg of neg front camber. Even if I don't end up using all of -2deg, at least that will allow me to experiement that far in the neg camber range. I'm hesitant to lower the car any more. That would just create more problems with driveways and trailers.

POST 2Original post

Cheapest: Slot your strut towers further than they already are slotted. The limiting factor here is the design of the factory strut hats. You'll likely get an extra .5 degrees of negative camber through this method Middle: Camber plates. Most of the plates on the market specific for 996's will give you an extra degree (1) of negative camber but in my opinion are spendy for a non-adjustable plate at $500+. You could also likely use the factory GT3 front monoball mounts but I'm uncertain if they work with the factory diameter spring for a standard 996. Search "Rotate" on the GT3 forum to see how to get additional camber with the stock GT3 mount. Expensive: Purchase the GT3 2 piece lower control arms and the associatd shims for the control arms. The more shims you increase the more negative camber you can obtain. Andy p.s. SEARCH

NASA types: If I dremel out the slots a bit, will that make me accrue Time Trial points as "Relocating" a suspension point?
