Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It occurred to me, that if we could run a log of the occurances and dealer responses.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

An earlier thread, "RMS Club - I'm in" treated the recent discovery of an RMS leak very lightly. It was a fun thread. Being someone who is out of warranty I have concerns about the leak.
It occurred to me, that if we could run a log of the occurances and dealer responses. Future owners could copy this log for their first dealer interview on the issue. With reluctant dealers, an attorney could also copy this to help resolve the issue. Additionally, owners could avoid reluctant dealers or warranty companies.
An example of focused power of the web & community.
BTW, I have a great deal of respect for the Owners who had the problem, but this is one club I don't want to belong to.
I'm for it if it can help "the uninitiated"
I would add
milage
, and
cost of ther repair
for those that may get ripped off as I have seen happen.

Dealers/Warranty Company Attitude: clueless the RMS was a TBS, later helpful and positive.
Additional Comments:
Maybe, just maybe if there are enough occasions of the problem, PCNA might find it prudent to institutionize the fix (instead of a class action lawsuit).
There are more entrepreneurial attornies in the US than in UK. It's the "American way"
Peter B are you sure?
I have spoken to Scouser and im sure he commented that the RMS is covered in an aftermarket warranty. Or is it that mine is a 1999 model and outside the 3 year manufacturer warranty.
Maybe I was mistaken
OK here's the gaff as I know it:
In the UK, if your car is out of warranty then Porsche UK is in no way obliged to offer you any assitance to fix any problem (engine oil seal or head lamp) no matter what feckin blows up. Basically, your warranty is over and your out on yer ****.....up **** creek without a paddle.....your only hope is a prayer....
However, having said that, Porsche UK (Reading Customer Services) "
may
" offer to help you through their good-will scheme if and only if:
a) your car was bought from, and fully serviced through, the PUK network.
b) Your service book is up to date.
c) The car is reasonably young: i.e., a 996 but not a 993 with low mileage.
d) The car has not suffered numerous stage 1 and stage 2 over and back revs. I.e., you haven't thrown it into 2nd gear at 7000 revs from 5th
e) The car has not been tracked (they know where yer been)
f) Your awfully nice and respectful to the Customer Service agent.
g) They are feeling extra nice the day you call.
So far, I have had 2 RMS done on good-will and they have given me
a good-will offer to replace my gearbox at less than 50% cost including VAT and fitting and the offer lasts as long as I own the car.
Personally, I think they have been very reasonable but........
I have owned my car since new. It;s only done 34k miles. I expect better from this marque......I am not a very happy camper in so far as my thoughts on this car's reliability.
Anyway, if you want a chance with any form of out of warranty good-will effort from PUK......don't go to the dealer. They are clueless. Call Reading direct and grovel grovel grovel. (gee if they are reading thism bang goes mt gearbox good will offer
)
