Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there a kit from Porsche to fix oil starvation for a 996 3.6? Thanks David Miami,FL

POST 2Original post

The X51 package comes with an oil starvation preventer kit but I've heard that the parts can be purchased seperately from various sources including Porsche Motorsports America. I hope that helps.

POST 3Original post

The 3.6 L has been improved over the 3.4L to the extent that oil starvation is not an issue. However, if you STILL want an oil kit, I believe you can get one. It's part of the X51 package, and I believe you can get it separately.

POST 5Original post

actually the 3.6 is not improved, i took a verrry verrry hard corner and saw my oil pressure drop to 1 from 5, so i took the same hard corner going the other way and there was no drop, so either its not improved or my gage just can't handle the G's

POST 6Original post

The 3.6L is improved, but it's still not going to handle G's like a dry-sump (ala GT2, GT3, TT and every 911 from 1965 to 1998)

POST 8Original post

Dry sump means just that, there is no oil sump or oil pan on the engine. Oil is in a separate reservoir and pumped to/from the engine. All M96 engines feature an "integrated dry sump", sort of a hybrid but not a true dry sump. The 3.6 is not immune to oil starvation, though much improved over the 3.4. Porsche Motorsports advocates use of the oiling kit for racing use. This is part of the X51 package. You can see it on the recent ads for powerkits in Excellence, the picture shows a tube on the 4-6 cam cover of a Variocam Plus engine. Additionally the oil pan baffles are aluminum instead of plastic among other things.
